pmcgall,
The only time I experienced brain zaps, was when a Dr. placed me on Paxil after diagnosing my thyroid symptoms as anxiety disorder. Thankfully, I demanded blood tests and had blood drawn before starting the SSRI antidepressant and was diagnosed with Hashimoto's-Hypothyroidism. In the mean time, I slowly weaned off the Paxil which I started after the blood draw but before my blood lab results were released to me a month later (were lost by the hospital).
The brain zaps came often while my body adjusted to the drug leaving my body.
I have heard of patients getting brain zaps (turning head quickly triggers them) and dizzyness with dose changes of their thyroid hormone, especially decreases. In fact I spoke to a friend with thyroid disease just last week who had his thyroid hormone stopped for eight days, so he could have a tonsillectomy and he experiences brain zaps as they are re-administering his thyroid hormone therapy back to the proper level.
There's actually a blog dedicated to the brain zap phenomena.
