We just watched the first two episodes last night. I'm sort of hesitant on this one. We love the Closer and we love Saving Grace. I think this is trying to capitalize on that "strong 'bad' woman in the police" mentality. So a lot of it so far is very stereotypical. The boss is over the top in his brain-deadness. Mary is over the top in her being obnoxious in rule breaking. Why malign the cop when she parks in the wrong place? Why make fun of the barroom guy's manhood size, never mind assault him with soap? A lot of it felt very forced.
But then again, all of the other shows I mentioned had intro shows that were equally as "stiff" because the actors hadn't worked into the characters yet, and the writers hadn't figured out what to do yet. I think just as the other shows eased into a more enjoyable, sharp writing style over time that this one has potential too.
We did laugh out loud at the whole "Columbo" segment. That was brilliant
