Well, the teething escape artist puppy wiggled out of her crate yesterday while we were at work, and destroyed:

$100 pair of Lucky Jeans
$80-$110 pair of Ariat clogs
$25 beret (work headgear)
3 sets of window blinds
Various books and newspapers

I think I can salvage the jeans, but those were my FAVORITE shoes. Luckily, I got almost 5 years of wear out of them, and Ariat still makes them.

My dilemna is, I can't go spending $400-$500 on all of the colors and styles I want. I'd like to try the mules too, but I also don't know what the heck I would wear them with. Help! Any other styles that are recommended? The Ariats really impressed me because they are SO comfortable and stood up to near-constant wear.

What are your favorite shoes and why?

I never spend enough on shoes. I know that the "expert style" advice is that shoes make your outfit and that's where you should spend your money; but I have yet to take this to heart.

Right now, I have a pair of black quilted ballet flats that I picked up at the discount shoe store Payless. Love them! They go with everything.

I love Payless. After I broke a toe that never quite healed properly, their basic pump-style flats became my work go-to shoes. I've still got a pair or two in my closet, and I still go there for fun, trendy shoes.

Now, I buy a lot of Clark's. Love their clogs. And, Merrell, Born and Echo. All are comfy and just this week, I found a great pair of Born that look awesome with pantsuits and didn't hurt my foot! Woo-hoo!

I buy most on sale, by the way. I rarely pay full price. The Born I bought were regularly $90 and I got them for $59. Not bad for shoes I'll probably have and wear for years.

Melanie, I finally converted, oh, almost 10 years ago when I realized that spending $40 on comfortable leather sandals that I wore constantly for 4-5 years was way more economical than buying the $15 cheap sandals that hurt my feet, I never wore, and was buying a different pair every year.

The Ariats I wore almost daily for 4 years, and the only signs of wear were a slight amount of scuffing on the toes. So... Guess I'm going to suck it up and spend $80 on them; I got my first pair for $60 at a discount house.

I love Jack Rogers shoes!! They can be worn for casual wear or when you need to dress up a little - they look cute with sun dresses!

I have a different pair of favorite shoes every week I think - LOL! That and hats!

This is my recent favorite - they are by Converse - their One Star collection, a little "dressier" than their hightops (though I love them, too!) I bought these to wear to my daughter's cheer competitions because her team colors are black and silver.

CROCS..even fake ones...but we are talking REALLY casual; although taking them with me when I have to wear REAL shoes is never out of the question AND REAL Birkenstocks....
