Thanks for posting these. I read Atlas Shrugged during my college years and I can't tell you how often I think of it these days!

Love Ayn Rand, and I'm hearing more and more people say essentially the same things she said without even having read her. Especially from an economic and political viewpoint.

We have created an entitlement-based society and it sucks for everyone. By "helping our fellow man" with welfare programs, we have stolen his and her dignity, ambition and ability to be happy. Plus, those who foot the bill are seeing no return on their investment and ever-increasing sums taken off the top of their paychecks. Perhaps Rand was a prophet?

Perhaps you feel this way because you are not the ones in need. I'm sure if your cute tennis shoes in your pic were on the other foot so to speak, you would feel a little different.

Safety nets are very important. I do not dispute that. However, long term aid often enables generations of families to stay in the entitlement system. Children often grow up in the system and think this is life.

I read Atlas Shrugged (or at least part of it) and was amazed.

Ayn Rand left me in no doubt about the law of unintended consequences: "What if you are placing your virtue [personal resources, hard work, intellectual capital] in the service of evil and letting ti become a tool of destruction of everything you love, respect and admire?" (my addition in square brackets.) I think of this quote when I see the huge waste of taxpayers' money when the government puts us into wars I totally disagree with, or supports drug companies getting richer from our pockets and other things.
