Oh Man!!!! I haven't read my ingredients on my toothpaste yet, but I'm sure they're very undesirable. I don't mind brushing with baking soda - in fact, somewhere I saw a recipe that if you use baking soda, sea salt and hydrogen peroxide it's a great tooth whitener.

Bye bye toothpaste LOL!

Great article Colleen! Thanks for sharing and keeping us up to date on this stuff wink

I used to sort of laugh at europeans for being afraid of fluoride. I thought, it keeps your teeth safe! Why would you want bad teeth!

But the more I learn about it, the more I realize how bad it is to swallow it. It's one thing to say adults should not swallow it and just brush their teeth with it. But once you start adding it into drinking water, or giving it to kids, it's pretty much asking for it to be swallowed. I definitely think people should have healthy teeth - but they should also keep their bodies safe too.

I am very happy we have well water! Even with well water, we use a Brita to filter it out. I don't want substances added to my drinking water, whether it's healthy or not. I'd rather choose for myself what supplements to take.

I use an organic toothpaste, one which I found AFTER I took a look at the ingredients in the "natural" toothpaste I was using. There are truly certified organic toothpastes but you have to check the label carefully and know what potentially toxic ingredients you're looking for.

I do want to add that I still believe in *brushing* with fluoride. My research seems to indicate that fluoride is important in maintaining the proper mineral levels of the teeth. I am all for cleaning teeth well, and for eating as low sugar diet as possible. Both are very important. But even doing those things, I think it's important to keep rebuilding the mineral content of the teeth, to account for natural wear and tear.

For example I'm pretty sure baking soda is an abrasive (scrubber) which is great for removing plaque, but also naturally causes wear damage smile

You're right, Green1. You really have to watch the labels on all body care products and know what ingredients you want to avoid.

I use organic toothpaste from Miessence. The ingredients for the mint toothpaste, for instance are:

Organic Aloe Vera leaf juice
Purified Water
Sodium Bicarbonate
Non-GMO Xanthan Gum
Sea Salt
Organic Spearmint Essential Oil
Organic Peppermint Essential Oil
Organic Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil
Organic Clove Bud Essential Oil
Stevia Rebaudiana Extract

You can check it out on my ecrater store or Miessense website

You don't have to join anything to order it.

I make my tooth paste like i do my bady powder.
baking soda and salt with a few drops of cinnamon oil or mint.

for body powder i use cornstarch instead of salt..

i let the mix sit for a day or so shaking the container every time i walk by it so it mixes well and it is just as good as the high doller name brand paste.... but i am kinda cheap that way...
