Hi,

I'm new to this forum and have practiced Reiki for about 10 years with 3 different teachers.

Perhaps I have been lucky because 2 of my 3 teachers were exceptional. The other one was just okay, but not a fraud. I agree with Isa123 to follow your intuition. But in my experience, there are many honest wonderful teachers.

My suggestion is to look for someone with integrity, who walks their talk. If they rush you or pressure you, that it a strong sign of lack of integrity.

Beware of spiritual arrogance:
-sounding too exclusive (focusing too much on lineage or denying that everyone has natural healing power).
-using the word "I" excessively, such as "I will heal you...." instead of "Reiki can heal you"
-charging exorbitant prices (more than a few hundred dollars per level)

Look for someone who honors who you are and offers Reiki or Reiki training as a way to help you access your own natural spiritual gifts.

Personally, I don't think all the different "brands" of Reiki make much difference. What I have found to make the biggest difference is the person's own purity of heart. Those who live with a sincere heart and mind seem to be clearer channels for the energy, in my opinion.

I have got some bad "reiki" systems so I believe there are some out there but for the most part most people are honest and the energy is good. this one system was just... i dont know how to explan it.. dark and draining. it was horrible!

I have learned that ones I find a teacher I like I stay with them until I learn all I can and then asked then to see where to go next. I was using the free reiki groups on yahoo and they are pretty good but not everything out there is legit on those free sites. and not all of the groups screen the teachers so it is kind of a free for all...

Reiki itself is not bad. It can't be used to hurt or control anyone. However, a person can use the name Reiki while really projecting their own negative dark energy. It's a shame.

Even though Reiki is energy, and therefore not bound by time or space, I would recommend working with a live person in your area. You can get a better feel about someone in person.

Hi I've noticed the explosion of different reiki 'brands'. My personal approach has always been that reiki is an incredibly simple healing system and I try to keep to that without embellishment. I am wary of claims that x type of reiki is more powerful than 'normal' reiki. Reiki is reiki, regardless of spin. It's the motivation and intention of the teacher that is paramount. The best thing to do is contact a few reiki teachers and just let your intuition guide you. It's through that personal connection that you will insticively know who is right for you. Anthony
