I just had a camping weekend with my Brownie Girl Scouts. smile The group is mostly 7-8 year olds and we did do some crafts for Mother's Day. One of the things we made was a napkin holder using pony beads and wooden dowels. That was a bit more challenging than I thought, more because of the gluing, not anything else. They also made gift bags and votive holders for their moms. I cheated a bit and got the kits from Oriental Trading Company. They have so many cute ideas. My oldest is currently into making jewelry. My youngest is not doing much more than playing soccer, but is asking for some craft ideas. What are you doing?

My children seem to be into writing books lately - or illustrating them. One is doing a book about snakes and one about shapes. The other is writing stories and illustrating them. Even the little ones start doodling when they see the older two at work.

There are some great kits out there to help children write their own books. I just bought one the other day as a gift where the child can create his or her own pop-up book. Who didn't love pop-up books?

Another great craft idea for mother's day (next year) or father's day.... is to get a large picture frame. Put a picture in it but print the picture almost translucent. Have your children decorate the border of the frame. Then you can buy a write on/wipe off pen and pen holder at an office supply store. And you have this great memo board!

Lisa,
What a great idea for the dry erase board!! I'll have to give that a try and maybe use it for my Girl Scout troop sometime. For a while, my youngest was into writing and illustrating her own stories. She filled two notebooks, and now she is more interested in enjoying the outdoors. We have always said with her that if we could pitch a tent in May, we would simply need to supply her with food and clothing until October!

It's now autumn and the leaves are falling. We've done paper plate spider webs with good success!

I'm including a link to a slideshow that includes 2 versions of the spider webs that we made:

Our special girl is into needlecraft right now -- learning how to knit!

Creativity is good for the kids...it seems to be very relaxing!

A belated thank you for the welcome, Rosie. I can't believe it is already 2009! Soon it will be time to start thinking about Valentine's Day. My girls love "hearts and crafts"!

its the time of year that I go through the grand kids toys and clothes here at Grandmas house, I put aside any clothes that I want to use in the future to put on a quilt for them when they are older of made from their favorite clothes/pajamas from growing up..and I take the toys that were once loved and make them into Christmas ornaments ...even make a wreath and give it to the parents for memories,,,over the years I have come to hang..my kids little baby shoes on the tree and I often put a little toy coming out of it or let them decorate it ,,,one way to remember and to see it once a year!

What absolutely wonderful ideas! My Brownie troop just made pencil holders that look like lambs. We took aluminum cans, from soup/veges/fruit, and covered them with cotton balls. Next, we added ears, eyes and feet. They were so cute. The girls had a good time making them.
