This is a beauty pageant for women in Angola who lost limbs when they stepped on a landmine. The intention of this pageant is to bring awareness to the landmine issue, celebrate real beauty, empower women and disbled people, and shatter the concept of what perfection is.

I think that every woman deserves to feel beautiful, and any event that promotes women and self-esteem is a positive thing. However, personally, I am not a big fan of fashion shows. I wish that the miss-landmine.org website told more about the contestants, a little bio about who they are would have been a nice addition.

I am not sure how much awareness the event could bring to the world about landmines. But something is better than nothing, so I wish their organization luck.

I would prefer to see a scholarship or women entrepreneur contest rather than beauty pageant because I think that beauty is much more than looks.

The website seems to be broken, but I do agree that it's good to raise awareness and to help these women feel beautiful.

While on one hand I agree with the scholarship idea, I think a key thing these women have lost is their sense of beauty. I think anything that helps them repair their self image is a great thing.

I went to the site and personally I find it sad. First of all the title of the Pageant is insensitive. Who wants to carry the title of the thing that nearly destroyed your life. What will the ladies say when they they are asked about theit title. "Oh that crown up there I won to remind me for the rest of my life that I lost a limb".That is just my personal opinion.

Well, I suppose if the title of the pageant bothered the contestants they wouldn't have competed. The pageant is held to bring more awareness to the landmine issue - it puts a face on the people - civilians - who are victimized by landmines.

I think I am speechless. Not sure what to think. If it is really for awareness and to promote a way to stop the insanity, then I think it is a good thing. Also, helping to feel good about yourself after such a traumatic accident is good. I guess the site has achieved what it wants it when we look at it and feel confused and outraged for the people themselves.
