Every dog I've ever owned is a favorite. Each breed has it's special qualities.
Kilroy, my Akita, was an amazing dog, so mellow, so gentle with children, our absolute angel, our once-in-a-lifetime magic dog. Everyone's favorite.
Lulu, our Olde English Bulldogge has the same perfectly sweet temperment as Kilroy. It took a while for her to get to where she is now (she was a rescue and was abused) but she is amazing now. Loves the dog park and wrestling with Ace.
Ace, our French Bulldog is a happy little clown with a stubborn streak. He makes us laugh and laugh, but he does get into mischief. (He's still young, though. So, time will tell.)
Dotty, my Samoyed mix was also mellow and smart.
Atticus, our Boxer rescue had a body full of scars and a heart of gold. He befriended everyone, a surprise to all of us after all he'd been through.
How do you choose a favorite breed? I can't pick just one. If pressed, I'd say the Akita. Both of ours practically trained themselves. They are so smart. The only drawback is the fur. It gets EVERYWHERE.
After that, the English or Olde English Bulldog and the Boxer (though Cancer is a huge problem with the breed).

I love our mini-Dachshund. He is so loving and very smart.
Oscar is a rescue who was abused and now suffers from back problems. He is so grateful for everything. You can see the "love" in his eyes when he looks at us. And we love him right back!

Pomeranians! I call my group the "Potato Chip Gang" because they're like Lay's potato chips, you can't have just one! The best way I've been able to describe my bunch is that they're 2-year olds. Busy, learning, not bad but into everything! Everybody comes to see them and they have to tell you! Even with their aggrivation they also have the 2-year-old's adoration of us and can follow rules, they just have to be reminded from time to time. Their biggest failing is that they don't know they're as small as they are, mine think they're the size of the Roc that lives next door. I've been lucky enough to have parents that are animal lovers, we always had at least cats and dogs. While I've only had poms, my parents have had German Shepards, a cocker Spaniel, a Jack Russell Terrier, a Lhasa Apso, a TerryPoo, many "combination" breeds and a Sheltie that was so big she looked like a regular sized Collie cut off at the knees! Believe it or not, I'm not a dog person. I love animals and used to prefer cats but I enjoy my 2 year olds and my littlest dust mop has caused me to be able to go and do things I would never have attempted before. I have evolved into a pom person over the years. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment! My kids get old enough to move out and fend for themselves and I move in another bunch of 2 year olds! Hugs! Laurie

Sharon - I was thinking of getting a mini-Dachshund, but I am so scared I would step on them!

Don't tell my other dogs, but Buela is my favorite...I just love ACDs, also known as Australian Cattle Dogs, Heelers, Blue Heelers, Red Heelers, Queensland Heelers, and sometimes "Hellers"

Afghan Hounds. Those beautiful, funny, gentle, protective, selectively deaf, clever, thieving, and totally lovable beasts that they are. I've had Affys for...hmmm....over 30 years now and can't imagine live without them. All of my Affys, except one, have been rescued from shelters.

No question about it...Great Danes. Our first is a rescue who'd been beaten, shot, burned, had her tail broken, and was thoroughly abused. We named her Brindle (she's brindle colored, not very original, but it fits). She's the best dog we've ever had. Even tempered, goofy, and the biggest, laziest couch potato I've ever seen.
Our 2nd Dane is a 7 week old puppy we have named Damage! Bought him 2 weeks ago Thursday. We got him from a breeder down by Mobile, AL. Unfortunately, the breeder didn't mention that all his dogs (all 40 of them) had been exposed to Parvo by a visitor. My little guy got sick within 2 days of bringing him home. But we have an amazing Vet. He saved our Brindle (she had heartworms so bad that the right side of her heart is damaged) so we had no qualms whatsoever that he would also save Damage. Well, $900 in vet bills and our little guy is up and fiesty as hell. The breeder refunded our money to pay for the vet bill.
Danes are a magnificent animal, in looks, temperament and disposition.....they're pretty scary to look at, but once you get to know a Dane, well, I think they're the best dogs for pets.
