hey, i was just wondering what types of birth control ya'll have been on. i've been on depo-provera for the past 5 years, and they say you shouldn't take it for more than two. but i'm a little worried about switching to another form. i've heard too many women who've gotten pregnant while on the pill. (that's what they say, but I'm beginning to think they did something wrong which made them get pregnant.) i really don't want to have a "mistake". even thought i know the mistake would most likely be mine. what form has been most successful for you?

I'm on ortho tricyclin low dose, and it works well for me, though it upset my stomach initially.

Elle is right about antibiotics and birth control, my pharmacist warned me when I was on amoxycillin for an ear infection, that I could become pregnant.

I've used only the pill successfully for the past seven years. It became an entrenched habit that the very first thing I did each morning before even getting out of bed, was take my pill.

I think with people who say they were on the pill when they became pregnant, it is usually a case that they skipped a few pills or were ill, on antibiotics, or took excess Vitamin C or other herbal supplements or medications that interfere with the pill. When you're on the pill, I think most people who want to avoid a pregnancy tend to read up on what they can and can't take with it.

I have been on the Pill for almost 9 years now and it works great for me; however, it did take a while for my doctor and I to find the right pill for me. Currently, I am on Estrostep Fe and I really like it.

I was on Nuvaring for 9 miserable months. I had so many side effects that I cannot even list them all!

Most people who have gotten pregnant while on the Pill have either missed some pills, have taken medications/supplements that will interfere with the pill. There are also some people who will tell you that they got pregnant while taking the pill perfectly because they don't want to admit that they missed pill(s).

I have used a lot of things. I originally had the pill, so long ago I forget which. It was horrible. Then I moved on to Norplant, it was just as bad.

I liked Nuvaring, it worked well for me, then I decided to go with natural methods. Lemon juice and Vitamin C. Lemon juice kills sperm AND the HIV virus. Vitamin C interferes with any implantation and will cause a spontaneous abortion if used before 6 weeks of pregnancy in the right manner.

I'm pregnant now only because I was lazy and did not take my C.

There are some issues with using large doses of C. I don't recommend or endorse it for everyone. Lemon juice is GREAT and almost anyone can use it.

My methods:
- Ortho Tri-Cyclen was the first pill I took. My horrible periods became managable almost immediately.
- I switched to the patch (Ortho-Evra) because I was traveling around the world and didn't want to worry about the time changes while taking a pill. That was great; my fears almost completely went away. The reports of increased blood clots, however, scared me onto...
- Yasmin, which I am NOT happy with anymore. I've gotten moodier and gotten worse headaches on it than I ever used to. I'm considering going back to my original pill for a while.

Now that I did not know. But it makes sense that if Vit C can interfere with the pill's hormones, it can interfere with pregnancy hormones too.

I know many, many women who have used the pill without any problems. I don't know of any (personally) who were on the pill and got pregnant.

Ive been on the pill for nearly 3 years...or maybe a tad more with no problems...I too am on Ortho tri whatever. The only issue I have with it is that it has caused my face to become blotchy with breaks outs that aren't really pimples if that makes sense. On the other hand it has taken my wildly unpredictable periods (I've gone 6 months without one before and was definitely NOT pregnant) and made them regular and SUPER short (3 days max instead of 6)

I've heard the Nuva ring can fall out.

Everyone has to assess birth control for themselves, because we all react differently to things. When I used bc pills, it basically KILLED my libido. I finally went off, thinking, "Why am I on hormones all month long for something that is happening rarely, and mostly out of guilt?" After I went off, I ended up having my cycles slow down to a stop, until the doc. kick-started it with progesterone. But I know others who used the pill for years with no adverse side effects.

However, if you smoke, don't use the pill -- there is an increased risk of stroke, something I'm sure you don't want!
