I was wondering how often you actually scrub your kitty's litterbox? And, what do you use to clean it?

My kitty's box needs a good, through cleaning, but I am not sure what to use. Would dish soap and lots of hot water be sufficient?

Thanks!

Soap and hot water are always good.
I scrub my 2 cat's litter boxes (they have 3 of them) every time I change the litter, which is at least one fresh box per week. I don't use the scoopable litter but do scoop the lumps out every day or 2, and then stir the litter up to spread the wet spots around so they will dry faster. That cuts down on the smell. So does the scrubbing.
My fussbudgets don't like a stinky litterbox and will use a corner of the basement if their noses are offended, so I am motivated to keep their boxes clean!

I'm a huge fan of vinegar and use it to get rid of pet smells, plus disinfect things.

What I do is to dump the litter then fill with hot water and white vinegar. I let it sit for a bit, then dump the dirty water and scrub. The vinegar smell dissapates (usually) when the box dries.

If you can't stand the idea of vinegar, try flushing the box out with lots of boiling water. Right now I can't stand the smell of anything (pregnant) and I make hubby do this outside.

One warning, do NOT use bleach. Urine releases ammonia fumes and you can get sick from the fumes of the bleach and ammonia mixing.

Thanks for the tips.

I was thinking about using vinegar since I use it for cleaning other items, but I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to use vinegar in the litterbox.

PS- Congrats on your pregnancy Julie.
