BellaOnline Forums Relationships Married No Kids "Babies aren't cute"

I hate the expectancy for every woman to find babies "adorable" , in my personal opinion I don't find them cute, interesting or glowing in baby jesus fashion like some mums like to believe. When I see baby pictures (or forcibly shown them at work and be expected to give compliments) I see nothing special, it's just a baby, they all look the same to me. I refuse to hold babies also as I find them messy and sometimes smelly and covered in food or drool, there have been times where I have been put in a situation where the mother and company around the mother have pressured me to hold their kid "go on meam , you can hold him" I have no problem saying "no thank you" and if they do not like the answer and still persist I will end up folding my arms so that if they actually dare to plop it on my lap it WILL fall off and it won't be my fault. Thankfully that has never happened as the mothers that do this gave up pestering me after the third attempt.

If I did the same thing with my pet rat to other people , it would be crazy to think EVRYONE found it interesting a cute which some mums fail to realize. I know there are people who are scared and grossed out by rats and I am never offended, we get told this big fat annoying lie that all wimminz adore babies so women who dislike babies have to either lie or be honest and be viewed as a monster by the baby crowd.

Even my male co workers get shocked when I tell them I'd rather get a dog rather then a baby, because I don't find babies aplealing at all. Even if they don't like the rugrats aswell I'M still expected to, it's just not fair. I watch animal planet and by god the baby orangutans and woolly monkeys looked a million times cuter then a human baby, guess I'm more of an animal person ^_^.

I'm a guy, so my opinion might be more expected, but I have NEVER found anything "cute" about babies. To me, they're repulsive and creepy looking. I can't help it - when I see a baby, I think "grub worm."

Slight OT - women are also people. Maybe some day, the general population will get its mind around that concept.

I'm another girl who doesn't think babies are cute at all. After some celebrity appeared on the cover of People with her month-old baby, I checked Google Images for pictures of month-old kittens. Baby animals are SO much cuter than baby humans!

There are some babies that are kind of cute... From a distance... I have sort of a soft spot for my nephew, but it's mostly because he's had such a rough life in his short year on the planet.

But, honestly, for the most part, I'm with you guys...

You guys are cracking me up! I think babies are the most beautiful creatures on Earth!!!! I love the way they look, smell, and sound! The most special moments of my life were when my babies were first put in my arms after they were born. But, I love all babies! I also love all animals. I never forced anyone else to hold my babies....I was always happy to hold them myself!

Meam, you mentioned monkeys and orangutans. I saw a special on chimpanzees the other day...they steal babies from nearby villages and eat them up. They also attack and eat monkeys. It was quite horrific. I had no idea.

This is a funny thread. I never think babies are cute. I thought I was the only one lacking that gene.

I actually had this convo with another mom.

She said something along the lines of "all babies are cute". And I said, "No, not really. I've seen some pretty ugly babies. Although there are some very pretty ones out there, too."

She stopped for a minute and goes, "Yeah, you're right...but all mothers think their baby is cute."

amen to that.... all mothers think they are cute... however, even some of my own nieces and nephews have been some UGLY babies! My newest nephew Je'Siah is cute at some angles and ugly at others LOL

I never TELL anyone, however, that I don't think much of the looks of babies. I can coo with the rest of them. I'd have to feel REALLY close to someone to say what I actually think when asked. In this case, a small lie is not a badness, IMO.

i agree Jilly. I am the same way. to the general public I wont birst a moms bubbble... but to my sisters, I have told them... damn he's ugly LOL
