So true and the instructions on the packet inserts really don't tell you how to coordinate the two. I had so many patients who thought they were doing it correctly but complaining they weren't getting any relief. After observing them they were following the instructions, just misinterpreted them.

Our pulmonologist utilizes an asthma education program in his office. He has a nurse practitioner that provides training for new patients/families over a six to eight week period; and then ongoing education for patients/families. It really helps.

I like many others have had the experience of the new HFA inhalers being either ineffective or causing severe broncospasms-so anyone thats switched to the HFA and is constantly reaching for their inhaler may want to talk to their DR! I've tried 3 HFA inhalers with the same result-my asthma worsened and each time my old CFC inhaler releived my symptons-I cannot tolerate the ethanol-it is a known toxin to some asthmatics. Google Save CFC and file a Medwatch complaint.

Just an fyi generally when you use your inhaler you should take 2 puffs utilizing a spacer, even with the new HFA inhalers. You can take one puff hold it for 5-10 seconds then exhale, wait about 20 to 30 seconds then take your second puff. If you use a peak flowmeter every day it allows you to keep track of how you're doing before you'll even notice a change in how your breathing is unless you already can tell subtle changes that are occuring.
