Do you wear pales, nudes or bronze lipsticks and glosses? This articles describes what skin tones, ages and seasons coordinate most with these "neutrals" of the lip world:

I like the browns - I am somewhat light-skined, but I have an olive tone - I can never wear a pink, or pearly color.
I am going to check your article smile

Thanks BillieCat. I am referring to browns as nudes, since they are lip skin colors (some people, like me, have brown lips).

My mother wears red lipstick every day, which i find a bit harsh-looking, esp as she gets older. She and I tried a nice rose-toned nude one day and it made her look so much younger! But since she is used to really dark reds, she felt like she wasn't wearing any lipstick. She wasn't comfortable.

Lip colors are such a personal thing. smile

I work as a freelance makeup artist for MAC, so I have many different colors. I'm noticing that I'm migrating more towards plum and mauve colors, but I love the bronze and browns too!

My daughter bought the very very latest Dior lipgloss from Christian Dior! We were in London and visited Harrods and Harvey Nichols beauty counters (lush - as she would say!)

It has a gorgeous twotone pinky pearly box and transparent bottle! Its a brownish pink natural shade and really suits teens.

Wait for it - she spent $30 on it! Gasp! Still, we were on vacation and had a great time!

HELLO,
I LIKE ALL KINDS OF LIPSTICK & LIP GLOSS COLORS. I WILL WEAR ANYTHING FROM NUDES TO REDS. I AM ALMOST 52. I STILL LOOK GOOD IN BRIGHT REDS. BUT I PREFER REDS THAT ARE TONED DOWN A BIT. I LOVE THE ROSE/PINK COLORS WITH GOLD IN THEM. I REALLY DON'T LIKE DARK BROWNS, PURPLE TYPES OF COLORS OR THAT ALMOST BLACK/DEEP RED.

IT ALL DEPENDS ON MY MOOD & HOW I FEEL ABOUT MYSELF THAT DAY. I STILL WILL WEAR A HOT PINK OR FUCHSIA/MAGENTA COLOR AT TIMES. BUT THERE ARE TIMES WHERE I LIKE THE NUDES & VERY NATURAL LOOKING COLORS TOO. I EVEN WILL WEAR PEACH COLORS. MY SKIN IS VERY FAIR WITH SOME COLOR TO IT. I HAD ALL KINDS OF HAIR COLORS IN MY LIFE. I'M VERY LUCKY THAT I DON'T LOOK MY AGE. SO THAT HELPS ALOT. I HAVE ALOT OF LIPSTICKS & LIP GLOSSES. TAKE CARE. JUDY K. CHICAGO.

Hey Jilly,

I definitely agree about the pales being a younger look. Those shimmery pinks look great on teens and college co-eds, but always seem to look like an older woman is trying to hard - kind of like a bright red can do.

But I think there are some reds that can be worn as we get older - these are the more earth-tones reds as opposed to fire-engine reds. One of my very favortie lipsticks is a dark brick red - which I then top with a bronze lip gloss for shine. Of course this is my night look, not something I wear to field day at the elementary school!

My very favorite color ever was oine called "paparazzi" out out by Avon several years ago. It was a pinky-bronze, that if you applied from the top was regular shimmer, but from the side gave a gold highlight to it. I'm always on the lookout for a lipstick in that tone.

Oh - and Deb, I have no problem spending $30 for lipstick. This is something that can be part of your "wardrobe" every day - and is much more intimate with your body. Why not be willing to spend a little bit of money on it?

You know, Michele, that is an excellent point - there are many reds out there, and some variations can look quite lovely on any age. When I think red I usually think of fire engine, scarlet and candy apple, myself.

Does anyone else have any earth-toned reds or rosier reds that are less bright and more youthful?

my skin looks best with the orange tinted lipsticks, they actually appear orange they are just not pink, it is really hard to find a pink that suits me. And personally I steer clear of all over shiny metallic lipsticks-they are just too far out for myself, I have seen them look good but it is very hard to pull them off without looking like a drag smirk I prefer the glam up the eyes and have more subtle lips.

I am light olive, so I like bronzes when I am tan and plums when I am paler. Also like the chocolates like the Eva Longoria signature brand from Loreal, I think.
