What do you think of the derogatory comment John Cafferty made recently concerning the Chinese? If you haven't heard about it, CNN newsman John Cafferty stated, in an aricle about Chinese economy, that the Chinese are "the same goons and thugs they were 50 years ago."

I find it quite shocking that a professional journalist would make such a statement. In my opinion, this comment is on par with the comment Don Imus made about the African-American women's basketball team. I am all for free-speech but not publically bashing a whole race.

What context was it made it? I can not comment either way unless I know the full context. Could you post a link please?

Frankly, I think it's inappropriate to make a comment like that in any context. I will try to find a link. Just give me time. My brain is moving slowly today. lol

From what I am reading and understanding, I think Cafferty is referring to Chinese Government and Business, not Chinese people in general. I did read while researching these coments that he did indeed clarify that he meant the Chinese Government. In this context, yes I agree the Chinese government are bullies and use scare tactics to get their way. Just look at what they are doing to Tibet.

I agree with Jeanette. I think in referring to the govenment and the context in which it is taken he is right. I'm willing to bet a number of Chinese feel the same way about their government.
