Hey Guys,

Just wanted to remind everyone, I've posted a new article on hummmingibrds. It is the first in a series of articles on these beautiful creatures. I'll be discussing how to attract them to your yard and choosing the right feeder in upcoming articles.

I adore hummingbirds! We always have a feeder or two out once May hits. I have one on my office window in the summer so I can watch them fly in smile

Has any one noticed the Hummingbirds being a little late coming back this year? I usually hang my feeders out around the 1st of April because they usually arrive by the 15th. I haven't seen any so far.

Hummers are so neat, I look forward to seeing more articles about them. (however, I think you mean "Ruby Throated" and not RuB Throated. wink ) Also, in that video I think it showed the type of hummer that does have a "chirp" of sorts, it's actually the male's tail feathers vibrating when he pulls out of his dive. (yeah I know far too much useless stuff)

That's fascinating about the chirps the male ruby throats make, thanks. I love those kinds of useless facts, they make life interesting and, yes, I also know too many of them. But I enjoy it. wink

I still have not seen a single hummer! Has anyone else?

I had decided not feed the hummers any more, however, I had about 3/4 cup of nectar left so I decided to put it out in my old feeder - the tall bottle type. I put it out yesterday and by this morning, it was all gone. I looked to see if it was leaking but there wasn't any on the deck. Would hummers go through 3/4 cup that quickly?

Yes! Especially when the youngsters are out of the nest and feeding themselves. Those little fellows can go through a feederful in no time.
BTW, you don't have to buy commercial nectars for them, boil up 1/4 C sugar in 1 C water (that kills any mold and yeast spores that would make it go bad too soon) put it out and stand back! It doesn't have to be colored, actually the dye in some commercial formulas is not good for the birds.
