I just had my lunch break. Went to the local place and had just sat down when in walks 2 women and 8 kids. Let's just say not a quiet lunch for me. These 2 women didn't even try to keep them quiet. They just let them scream and run in and out the door. I just had to get out of there. I understand that it's hard to keep 8 kids quiet, but at least try to keep it to a dull roar. I feel better having told you all this, thanks for reading. Great to have a place to vent.

Did you say anything to the women? I don't know if I would have, but I would have at least shot dirty looks at them and the kids. Maybe a few comments to other diners "I didn't know this was a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant." (I don't know what kind of place you were eating, but I would assume it wasn't Chuck E. Cheese, LOL!) Would the staff have done anything if you had said something to them? That just makes me mad, when adults let children ruin other people's dining experiences. No matter what type of place it was, (except C.E.C.) you're entitled to have a pleasant dining experience.

I threw a couple dirty looks, but the one woman didn't care. It's a family pizza joint. We go there all the time and usually we don't have any problems. I know the waitress and didn't want to make it any harder on her. It was just easier to eat and get out. These 2 women didn't seem to see anyone else around them. Maybe they are just immune to all the rack the kids were making.

Any venue + 8 kids = Hell.

That must have been horrid for you. I agree that most mums are oblivious to the noise of their kids, where it grates on us!

Maybe you need to find a more adult-friendly lunch venue. I think that's what I'd do in the circumstances. :-(

Yeah I've been thinking of doing just that. I just wish I didn't have to change my choice of dining for them. Oh well CF's are still out numbered.

I think at that point, I would have asked the waiter to pack up the rest of my lunch so that I can take it back to the office and eat in peace. Make it clear to them that this is the reason why I'm taking my lunch away... I go to a self-service restaurant in a local mall once in a while, which is frequented mostly by business-type folks, having their lunch. I specifically go there because the food is good, fresh and lots of variety, on top of that you get in and out quickly. I work in an environment where I constantly deal with people, traffic, requests, etc, so it's nice once in a while to just "get away" for an hour, be by yourself (not have to talk to anybody) and enjoy some quiet time while you eat your lunch. It's irritating when that is ruined by moms with unruly kids. Most of the time they are oblivious to what goes on around them.

Lunch is very important to me - I look forward to it - my escape from the office, a chance to recharge the battery, a mental break...
I've never been one to have a sandwich at my desk - I work much more efficiently/effectively having a break - even a short break...
I'm happy to work later if need be...but need my lunch break...
I have my favourite places and they have been chosen for their "haven" qualities...
I agree with fatina - if my lunch was being disturbed - I'd ask to be seated elsewhere or take my food away - not back to the office but to my favourite coffee bar that allows outside food...
Problem solved...
