Beastie runs in fear from the vacuum, but I had a cat years ago who absolutely loved being vacuumed. She purred and stretched and rolled around... but she was deaf, so there was no noise to scare her.

Hi all :-)

On Friday we went to dinner at the house of a couple who are friends of my DH. When we walked in, we were introduced to another couple and their adolescent boy, as well as the host's golden retriever dog. The boy responded in arrogant grunts when I tried to talk to him, so I turned my attention to the dog, who was absolutely delightful and rolled immediately on his back so I could scracth his tummy. I thought of you all as I fawned over the dog and proceeded to ignore the unpleasant boy....

Oh my goodness, I was laughing hard on this one. We have 4 cats and 3 dogs. The biggest dog we have is a pitt bull mix and he is a big baby, you have more of a chance of the cat attacking you than the big dog.

That's totally us. Whoever we go visit, the pets are always glad to see us.

Exact same situation with my cat, right to the age! When I pulled it out for the first time he slapped it! Now he hides in any dark place he can find when ever I take it out.

I know this is a little off topic but here is what I am ABLE to do to 3 of my cats, I get a sponge and get it wet (warm or tepid water) squeeze it out real good and then gently just "wipe" the cat as if you were petting them, it gets alot of the hair off. And it also works just to rinse your hands shake them off and then pet them.

I brush our cats once a week - the Siamese thinks it's a game so the job takes sometime..
The tabby gives me a hard time - he has a sore spot on his back - he was hit by a car a few years ago so, I'm careful to avoid his back...He loves rolling in sand, dry leaves, mulch and exploring under the house so loose fur is the least of his worries...
I have a new dressing gown that now has a large dirty patch on the back - I've worked out our tabby likes to sleep on it and he's left his mark! So, I've started giving him a quick wipe with a damp towel when he enters the house...again, it's a bit of a performance.
It also, explains the black marks on some of the cushions...
Honestly pairing a Siamese and a tabby is quite amusing - they're really an "Odd Couple"...soooo different.

You know what works best for me? Not having a cat ... heehee.

Just joking, I have tremendous shedding problems with my rat terrier. He doesn't have that much fur, but it's short and pointy and sticks to EVERYTHING. Even tape doesn't get it off. You almost have to pull it off piece by piece with tweezers (which is what I've done with my husband's dark blue sweaters before.)

Vacuuming does almost nothing. At least the other dog has NORMAL fur.

Lynette, my DH had a dog with the same type of fur. I can't tell you what type she was - but her hair was short and stuck to everything. However, he had worked at Oreck back in the day, and those vacuums actually managed to pick it up effectively. Not to endorse a certain vacuum brand, but it definitely worked.

Ooh ... might have to give that a try!
