You're right Jessica!

And you do make a good point in that Brad's pictures showed a tremendous amount of weight loss, whereas you Mom's just looked like toning up - basically.

I never replied to "Mike's" post, because I had never seen anything on the grandmother (although she certainly didn't looke like a grandma.) But I have noticed that her commercials are still on the air, whil Brad's are not.

However, the more I have thought about it, the more I wonder if Brad himself ever informed Bowflex that he had GBS? And I also wonder which came first - the Bowflex commercials, or the Discovery Channel's special? It may not have been my complaints at all that caused those commercials to be pulled. A Bowflex CEO may have just seen that special! (Could you imagine the look on his face?)

Oh, well...I wonder if Brad's still carrying any beach bunnies out of the pool these days?

Hi, Michelle, Jessica, Connie and all!

My 30 year old son has a total gym that he has been using for about 4-5 years and it really keeps him in great shape. I started this post and asked my younger son how long he had it and he said "mom, he doesn't have a bowflex, he has a TOTAL GYM". duh. I've even tried it out and it DOES make your muscles work without even knowing it!

No, this is not a commercial. LOL He was dating a girl who loved to cook and he was putting on weight. He is not a real tall guy (5'10") so he started the total gym to bring his weight back down and give him energy. It did work and he started riding bikes and running. A few times he had me try a few leg pulls and pushes and it was easy and fun but my butt muscles hurt so much the next day, I said forget it. Young people have enough energy and desire for that; I'll just stick with my every other day walking.

Michelle, I'm glad that you are doing so well. Your energy level will continue to improve as your body becomes less run down. It took awhile after I had my heart surgery last summer but within six months I was starting to feel like myself. You are in my prayers!

Continued good luck and best wishes!

I just started at a local gym today as well as still training with my physical therapist. Whew! I am living the mantra "no pain no gain!" LOL

But I own one of those weight machines that do several exercises. You know so it will make it easy. It's got boxes stacked on top of it. I've learned that for me I need other people to help motivate me. That's why I'm also signing up for those Belly dancing classes that Parthena has been raving about. (Plus it would make a nice surprise for my huband , too!)

Jessica, tell your mom she is an absolute inspiration! Seeing her is what finally made me give in to hubby's incessant nagging about getting a bowflex when we already have so much equipement in this house that we could start our own gym! Your mom looks super, though!

I can tell you from my own experience...I have only used the bowflex once because I have been into other things (aerobics and yoga), although I do intend to start using it soon, but my husband has been using it for 3.5 weeks and I can tell you, I see a difference in him already. His arms are getting huge again and stomach back to the 6-pack. His legs are leaner and he's just looking good! Not that he didn't before, but you know what I mean. It's resistance training and you will see results just as quickly with resistance training as you will with free weights if you stick with it.

Actually,
You are wrong.
The guy joking about Subway and an overweight school teacher is Ches Gessner.
He's not a model, he hasn't had surgery.
But he was my teacher for the past 2 years.
He is the most influential man I have and will ever meet.
Bowflex does work, however he has gained an excess of 200 pounds BACK after discontinuing his workouts.
He originally did lose all of his weight by himself on a regular diet and everything.
He just quit.
There is a long story that he told us about him quitting.
They aren't lying.
He has a gorgeous wife named Kim as of May of last year and a son on the way.

I do have to say that I love Bowflex. We have one here and it is a great piece of equipment and takes up very little space. I love that it's not "dangerous" like real weights - I can easily hook up 150 pounds of weight all by myself, and I'm not very strong. When we go into fitness stores I try playing with the "real weights" and I would never use those.

So I really have to say, how any piece of equipment works is up to how you use it. If you buy a Bowflex and never use it, it's not going to do anything for you. That's true for anything you buy. If you buy a Bowflex and use it, you really can achieve results. But again that's true with anything you buy. The question is what YOU will use.

I also want to comment on the "pouch" idea - that is a myth smile Look at the Biggest Loser results. Those people don't have pouches. If you have a skin pouch it is because you still have excess fat. That fat is lining your skin and pulling it down. If you lose the fat, you will lose the pouch. So really the question is whether you want to lose the fat the natural way (working out, etc) or the surgical way (having it cut off).

LIsa, I don't agree on the pouch. In previous seasons on BL there were pepople who had persistent aprons. I remember Ryan, for example, who was either the runner up or winner - i don't remember which. He looked amazing! Yet he also had an apron, right on top of his cut and defined body otherwise.

I heard he had to get it removed.

What was his final weight though? I didn't see one on any of the current contestants ... and I went from 180/190 down to 120 without any pouch at all. I've seen numerous testimonials on the web of people who lost 100 pounds or more and the skin retracted. In cases where it didn't (like my boyfriend's mom) it was because she still had fat on her.

My boyfriend went from over 300 down to 220 and had a pouch for a while until he lost the remaining weight, then it went away. So it was a visible change.

Also I want to note that it's not an instantaneous change. If you lose 15 pounds in a week, it might take another few weeks for the skin to adjust. I still have stretch marks from where the skin had gone out - but now it's in.

Different people have different bodies. Some will have the apron. Obviously not most people, but that doesn't mean it isn't a reality for some folks. smile
