Ooooh, what lovely responses from you all. Deborah, thank you for helping me feel less bad for frittering away an entire evening when I should have been working!
BillieCat, you are amazing - this is such an insightful thing to say - "I am very maternal and nurturing, and I breathe a sigh of relief that I don't have children because it would be too emotional draining for me. " I erally know what you mean. For me it would be the same. This is a great quote. I am going to save it.
Great news everyone, Phoebe is very well this morning. A bit clingy but I've seen her run up the stairs twice.
While we were at the vet (which she just hates), the vet went into the other room to get something. While we were waiting, Phoebe shoved her head into the crook of my arm, in a kind if "if I can't see the vet, he can't see me" kind of a way. It's was sooooo gorgeous (and heartbreaking!).

It's good to hear that Phoebe is on the mend! I can imagine how distressing trips to the vet must be for pets - going to the doctor is usually no fun for humans, let alone animals who don't really understand what's going on.

I'm like this with my pets, especially my sugar gliders. Their vet is over an hour away!
And after every vet appointment with any of the animals, I call their "daddy" to tell him what a good glider/dog they were for the vet!

I hope your kitty feels better soon Feebee! Lucky for her she has such a caring family. Let us know how it goes...I'm sending good wishes to Phoebe.
Yay for all our happy pets who get the gift of our undivided devotion for their whole lives! I keep thinking about that and being grateful about it. I would feel so bad if my cat, who's getting up in years, had to deal with being shoved to the back burner or worse, harrassed by a toddler during her golden years.
I think it was Myrabeth who said cats don't hold grudges. Maybe not Beastie, but my cat Frieda happens to be the queen of the grudge barf. Our house would get really disgusting probably if there was a child living here too.

Great news everyone, Phoebe is very well this morning. A bit clingy but I've seen her run up the stairs twice. Wonderful! Phoebe shoved her head into the crook of my arm, in a kind if "if I can't see the vet, he can't see me" kind of a way. It's was sooooo gorgeous (and heartbreaking!). Awww, poor sweet little girl. I can see a cat doing this. We used to have to wrap our cat Rutherford up in a towel to get him to the vet. He hated the vet and the car ride. I'd hold him like a swaddled baby and my husband would drive.

Awww! Little Phoebe! Poor girl. I'm glad she's doing better now.
Ingilbert, that's so cute -- good glider! Aw, sugar gliders are so sweet.

Ak! Somehow my computer lost track of unread posts, so I didn't read your update Feebee. That's great news! Thanks for the update.
I totally agree too about knowing that I'd become very emotionally drained with stress and worry over kids if I had them. That's a huge reason why I'm CF too.

I loved what you said, Frieda, about Phoebe having a "caring family" :-) That's really nice.

GREAT NEWS FOR PHOEBE!
Well, thank you Feebee & Cherry - it is nice to be called insightful - I know all of you feel the same way; the fact that you are so nurturing and maternal as it is, having a child would just rip your heart out every time there is some stress, no matter how minor it is. Going through illnesses with my family and my pets is very painful. It is the fact that I am ultra-sensitive that I decide not to have kids..... can you imagine a "I hate you mom" that would come up every once in awhile - you know it happens to even the greatest moms - this would kill me, as I know it would the rest of you! The happy moments just don't outway the stress, worries, and bad times. Anyway, may all of your furry babies have good health....
P.S. I have been seeing a therapist this year to talk about things, and he said that he thinks my "babies" are good enough as human babies to fill maternal instincts. I was so happy to hear someone I look up to accept and praise my CF status! He said that my husband and I have progressed and advanced past the need to rear children!
