We befriended a Canadian girl who was here as an au-pair. We were making toast and she picked up the marmite and started spreading it really thickly on her toast. The look on her face when she bit into it was classic. She had thought it was chocolate spread!

Hey, quit picking on Vegemite. Food of the gods, it's just that silly foreigners don't know how to eat it properly :-) Vegemite is much better than Marmite, Marmite is bitter. Vegemite is - um - less so, I guess.

Freida, mail the jar to me, I'm out!

Try giving it to your animals too. They LOVE it. And there was a clinical study done a few years back that showed giving animals Vegemite radically reduced their incidence of kidney failure.

I love the OP. The thought of trailing goats through the supermarket is just such a beautiful mental picture, it breaks me up!

Oh ew it's bitter? No way I'm EVER trying it then. >;P I have over sensetive taste buds and bitter is one of those flavors that is overpowering compared to how other people perceive it.

I must say that I've never thought of Marmite as bitter (I do like it), though I suppose I haven't tasted Vegemite, so can't compare. I'm going to have to hunt down some Vegemite now just to try!

I have re-read it and the thing about the goat has me snorting with laughter. "Take with you the nearest thing you can find to a pre-school child - a fully grown goat is ideal.". It's so "dead-pan" - I just love "dead-pan".

I loooove marmite...

Vegemite is also ok, but not as good as marmite.

A nice onion bagle with marmite and brie... yummy! :-)

I loved that article, and think that all who intend to breed should be required to complete the steps in the article first, just so they know exactly what they'll be getting into.

I also love that I FINALLY know what Vegemite is! smile I've wondered what that was ever since first hearing the song "Down Under" by Men at Work - that part in the song when they sing "He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich..." - thanks guys! smile

Ha ha! I forgot about that song. It's so funny because I didn't know what it was either back then, and always thought he was saying:

"He just smiled and gave me a bite of his sandwich."

Thats so funny, freida. I thought the line was exactly as you wrote it. My dh laughed his @ss off at me. Apparently, he KNEW the right words. but he didn't know what Vegemite was. At least I was able to enlighten him.
