They should have induced vomiting at once (about 2-4 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide, depending on how big the dog is - check with your vet about the amount.) That works for my puppy, but not my older dog. The trick is to put it in a turkey baster with a dab of peanut butter on the end. When they lick the peanut butter you squirt the hydrogen peroxide down their throats.

Anyway, just something to keep in mind for all you dog-lovers who have animals who like to eat what they shouldn't.

Chatty - this is horrible news. I sincerely hope that the dog will be okay. Please keep us updated!

Oh no! I'm really worried too; the poor dog could have internal bleeding going on and is therefore lethargic. I really hope the dog gets to the vet soon! Please keep us updated!

Why do people think it's ok to not take a dog to the vet when if this were a human child they would've been in the emergency room immediately... frown frown frown

Your In-laws should be reported to the SPCA for animal abuse. They shouldn't be allowed to keep their dogs.

Instead of posting her eI would have called a vet for an opinion and then if the in laws did nothing grab the dog and take them yourself. If anything happens to the dog then knowing what you do you are just as responsible. What if it were a human...would you still be sittiing talking or acting. We are talking about time here and each minute counts. Do the right thing!!!!!!!

rdywenur, the dog is not hers, nor even a member of her household. By taking the animal out of the house without the owner's consent, she could be held criminally liable, no matter what her reasons for taking the animal, or where she takes it. If she were a cop, animal control officer, etc., it would be different. But pets are property under the law. If she were to swoop in and take the dog without the owner's knowledge and consent, she would actually be a risk for charges of theft.

Although the situation makes me screaming mad at the owner, I agree with chatty's method of giving repeated warning to the owner and offering to take the dog to the vet. As a bystander, she is doing all she can do.

(Not to mention the familial hell she'd be in if she stepped on toes in this situation!)

Do you see what I mean? That's why she's talking instead of acting. That's not HER dog.

Best wishes to the dog. I hope she recovers.

Talk to her about how a baby got hold of some asprin and died after eating a few of them and then say ' Isn't it funny how some people are so ignorant as to the affects of Asprin?'

I would call the animal protection people anonomously.

She can't prove it's you and when they look at the dog, they should be able to tell it's ill, surely?

I would imagine at the moment it is in a lot of pain frown
