Economists and the "powers that be" are predicting that gasoline prices could hit $4 per gallon this summer.

Will that make a difference to your summer travel plans?

Yes! I will travel. But maybe get more creative and spend more time closer to home. There's always a museum, historic spot, or trail that I've put off visiting until tomorrow. Or that Bed and Breakfast an hour away.

One doesn't always have to travel far to feel like a tourist.

It is already at $3.75 down the street, so only a few weeks before it hits four bucks here in Los Angeles. My kids go to summer camp every day for six weeks and that is my vacation.

I've heard it is that high up in the Midwest too. We can still get away with about $3.25 today.

We're still planning to drive from the Southwest to the East Coast. My husband and I were just talking about this last night. We've raised our gas budget another $500 to be on the safe side.

Room rates at the motels along the way have gone up too.

This summer our trip is costing about $1,500 more from last year for the same route, etc.

Are you all making more money to offset increases in utilities?

How do we stop this inflation? Or is the only solution to make more money?

Well the station down the street is now at $3.79 and their super duper is $3.99

I had the tv on in the other room and they were doing the usual weekly story on gas prices and they break it down for Los Angeles County, Inland Empire and Orange County. They said the average in LA was $3.74 and then the next one I did not hear but was already at $4.00

I am surprised with all the news on the airline issues that more talk about the trains and bus systems are not being discussed.

Years ago I took a Greyhound bus from NJ to CA and a trailways back to NJ 6 months later.

A few years ago we took the train from LA to San Diego and back. It was a nice trip

We own Semi Trucks and diesel is now $4.00 per gallon..The owner operators can't make a living with prices so sky high..There was a call for a strike last week..In Chicago, the drivers slowed traffic down as they spread out over all the lanes..and of course they were ticketed for obstructing traffic..
They are suppose to get a fuel sur-charge tacked on to the pay to off set the high prices..but it isn't keeping up with the rising prices..We've been in business for 15 yrs and this is the worst it's ever been..This is a disaster..I can't see fuel going down anytime soon..When does this end..??

I saw on TV that truckers wanted to strike so people would know what they are going through and how much truckers are needed. I sincerely believe that PEOPLE do know what truckers are going through because it's trickling down to food prices, etc, which is affecting everyone.

I'm not for a lot of government intervention but I do think the government could do something about the gas prices. Also, re the war in Iraq, why are we spending so many of our tax dollars for that war while Iraq has so much oil and has a budget surplus? Why are they not paying us in oil to do what we are doing there?

It would certainly help our own country's economy to have that money being spent here instead of there.

As to whether or not I'll travel this summer. I usually fly to see my parents and this year they are helping me with the tickets for me and the kids as the ticket prices all went up. We won't be driving any place this summer and I try to consolidate my trips as much as possible.

We're staying close to home this summer. I think we'll take short trips around the state.

The gasoline prices are terrible! It's time to seriously begin looking at alternatives - not just say we're going green but to actually to do.
