Well I am either going to have a tubal done or I am also thinking about a hysterectomy. I have a very heavey period and would like to get that whole thing over with now. I am 41 and I can't imagine waiting another 10-15 years to be done with having a period.

I will have to talk with my doctor about it. I would like to have it done vaginally as this is less invasive.

How about a tubal and an endometrial ablation? I had my tubal done first, then about a year later I had my ablation done. I had heavy periods and extreme cramping due to a fibroid that was on the inside of my uterus.

have you considered having the essure procedure done instead of the tubal? it's an in and out procedure, no scars, takes only about 30 min. and has a very short recovery time.it's also permanent like a tubal. when i went for my annual i in inquired about it and they gave me a phamplet.i also went on the essure website to get more info. i'm not trying to convince you to go that route,i just wanted to offer an alternative in case you were interested. also from what i read it's the only fda procedure to have zero pregnancies in the trials.

i'm going for a consultation on the 23rd. i can't wait to have it done!

if you're interested in learning more about it please feel free to PM me.

I will have to look into it. It just feels pointless to go through this every month, to go through taking birth control pills when I am not going to have another child. Why carry on with that burden?

I will talk to the doctor about the posibilities. I know I don't want to have to worry about this. I would like to become involved again but I am not going to have another child, absoutely NOT. The thought of all the things that could go wrong frightens me to the point where I couldn't enjoy the sex, nevermind just having to raise another child at my age. Its just not what I want for the rest of my life.

I do have a friend who is 45 and she recently started dating again after a protracted divorce, she says her doctor thinks that the bleeding from a heavy period will get better with time back on the pill. I just hate to start taking them again but I know myself, I don't know that I could feel safe having sex without birth control pills and only relying on condoms and spermicide, too much room for error there.

Here's another little tidbit for ya. Regular sex and just being around males apparently makes menstrual cramps ease up. (I'm not sure if it's so much the pain eases up, or if guys are just such a pain at times that in comparison the cramps don't seem so bad! >;D )

Really??? That's not working for me at all!! My sex life is about as regular as regular can be, and I am around males constantly (even smart [censored] ones, and ones that like puns, so believe me, there's some real pain involved), yet I have the worst cramps. Not fair.

Nope! Doesn't work for me either. I still have 3 days every cycle where I'd rather be curled up in a fetal position than doing anything else.

Yeah, I know what you guys mean. So either that means that it just works for SOME women, or that you'd be in WAY more pain otherwise. >_<

I know this an old thread, but I just wanted to say I had mine done a couple years ago and I've never looked back. It's been great. I haven't had any trouble at all (knock on wood).
