If it takes biological entrapment to hold him, he's free to go. Why would anyone want to live in a marriage that epitomizes the phrase "the old ball and chain?" He's a husband, not a prisoner.

Also, you really ought to have a look at divorce statistics. A marriage is MORE likely to fail with kids than without.

Bingo (I've actually gotten this one): You say that now, but give it a few years. Everyone says they don't want kids at your age.
(I was 24 when I got this!)

(I borrowed this awesomeness from someone's post on Britgirl - paraphrased) :

How much do you want to bet? How about, if I have a kid by the time I'm 40, I'll pay you a million dollars. But if I get to 50 without having one, you owe me a million dollars. I have a lawyer friend who can draft it up as a watertight deal, let's go see him. Right now.

What? You don't want to bet? But just a minute ago, you were soooooooo sure I'd change my mind!!

Bingo :

Don't worry about the cost. You'll find a way to make it work.

Bingo:

You don't want to have kids? Really? (Pregnant pause)... Get away from me and my family! I don't want you spreading that perverted, unnatural blasphemy to anyone who DARE go against the word of my God!

I think people who are as religious as you are nutjobs. I will GLADLY get away from you, as long as you promise to stay away from ME.

Bingo (which I got yesterday after talking about how I took the neighbor boy to the library):

Look at how helpful you are with children! You would enjoy teaching YOUR child about the Dewey decimal system! I mean, someone who would go to such lengths to help a neighbor's child would be a fantastic mother!

(To which I replied, well, I've spent the last 12 years raising this boy because his parents don't pay any attention to him, so I guess I've already had a child.)

I got something similar when I was caught sitting with a friend's little girl answering all her "Why?" questions. (There were at least 15 to 20 of them; she's as curious child.) She's also a quiet, well-mannered child with a love of learning. I didn't mind her littany of questions in the slightest.

Everyone exchanged knowing looks. "Just look at how patient you are." snicker, snicker. "You're a natural," they all kept saying.

Indeed I am. A natural aunt. But only to well-behaved children. My nephews were unfortunately nothing like this child so I missed out of much we could have shared. I'm holding out much hope for my niece who's so far so good--but only 2 1/2, so we'll see. I'd really enjoy being much closer to her as she grows up.

BINGO:
Oh, no, you'll absolutley change your mind. You have such patience with children.

Bingo: It is your duty as an educated, well-balanced individual to pass your genes on to the next generation.

Although it's a variation of others that have been posted, I've really been told that - verbatim. To which I replied something about my mentally disabled sister and cancer running rampant in my family. Just because I'm educated and well, somewhat balanced, doesn't mean my genes are high quality, nor that I should feel a sense responsibility to pass them on.

I absolutely love it when I'm saying something about not wanting children, and how poorly some kids act in public, when someone has to say "But it's different when they're yours!" I like to reply, "I think it's interesting that people always say that, but nobody says that it's BETTER when they're yours." Usually shuts them up or makes them laugh.

Thanks, but I doubt it. I'm patient only because I know I get to hand them back to you in a couple hours. (with big smile)

Bingo:

Women who don't have children become so cold and bitter.

Really? I've always found CF women to be warm and charming.

Bingo: You'll never know the joy of hearing the pitter-pat of little feet running around the house.
