Welcome to the Baby Names forum! We don't have any formal rules here, but please keep a few things in mind:

1. You should post something!

We'd love to talk to you! So please post something--it's free, it's fun, and it'll help you find a name! If starting your own thread seems like too big a step, just respond to another thread first to get warmed up.

2. Remember to be respectful.

This forum is full of opinions. We'd love to hear yours! But please refrain from insulting or attacking people you disagree with. Respect the opinions of others, in other words.

*NEW* 3. Details, details, details!

I'm adding this after seeing a several very short posts asking for help. For the best help, add a few details! "I need a baby name" will get you random suggestions, but "I need a girl name that starts with S and has 2 syllables," or "I need a old fashion boy name that sounds good with the surname Miller" will get you much better suggestions.

That's all!

If you have any questions, please respond to this thread or send me a note (just click on my username, then click "Send a PM").

Hi Jane!

There are hundreds of baby name websites out there with unique names. I don't recommend any in particular, but just search for "unique baby names" and you'll find them all.

That said, many of today's unique names are made-up in some way, so they weren't really "grabbed" from any one spot. Some parents take traditional names and give them a twist, so that's one way to do it. i.e. Georgia to Jorgiah. Others take words that aren't typically personal names and use them as personal names. e.g. Boston, Elantra, Sullivan.

Hope this helps!

Hello all, I'm a newbie. I like the thread, almost every thread which are connected with babies or kids are my favorite one's. I've a year old baby, whose name's Maria, and I think it's a nice baby name.

My sister passed away 3 and a half years ago from cancer. My husband and I are trying to start a family and would like to honor my sister in the name of our baby. My sister's name is Nicole Lynn. My cousin just had a baby boy yesterday and named him Cole after my sister and that was a name that I liked, but there's nothing I can do about it now. I would like your opinion on how to use my sister's name for a boy or girl name for my child one day. Thanks!

Hi Meghan,

I'm going to start a thread for you. I think your question will get more attention that way.

Hello. I am a newbie as well. My husband & I are TTC, so always interested in baby names and what's behind the name.
