And what if I'm not? I'd rather not run the risk of damaging the child. And the chances are pretty good that I WON'T be a good mommie, simply because my heart's not in it.

Bingo:
There's no feeling in world like the love a mother has for her child. Don't you want to experience that?

I've already experienced it--the other way around. My mom and I are very close, so I already know this.

Bingo:

You take care of your dogs like they are your children. They are just substitutes for the real thing. Do you want to be the crazy cat/dog lady when you are older?

if it means that i can live out the rest of my life exactly as i choose, i'll take the risk that the rest of the world might think i'm crazy. after all, they already do! i live for myself, not for what other people think of me.

bingo:
well, you have plenty of time to be selfish. you're still young.

What could possibly be more selfish than wanting to spread my DNA all over the place, and to see a little me running around? Having kids is what is inherently selfish, not consciously deciding it is something that is not for me.

Bingo:
You are still a child until you have a child of your own.

Simone de Beauvoir dismissed motherhood as, "...'a strange mixture of narcissism, altruism, idle daydreaming, sincerity, bad faith, devotion and cynicism."

The law defines a child as anyone under the age of 18 and seeing as how I'm way past that, I would beg to differ.

Bingo: Well I guess if you change your mind someday (after 40) you can always adopt.

Bingo:

you will never feel like a whole woman until you have kids.

OMG this is the greatest thread I think we've ever done...I'm getting such a kick out of it. Just when I think we've squeezed out every bingo we've ever heard, you all just keep goin'. Okay, here's my answer and requisite bingo:

Oh honey, I'm so woman-hear-me-roar more than you'll ever know every time I bed my boyfriend. Every time I land a sale. Every time I accomplish a new goal. How limiting for you that you only feel "whole" womanhood in breeding, like an animal with only instinct sans logic or reason.

Bingo: "Seriously? You don't want kids, ever?!?"
*followed by grimace and dramatic, overtly twisted face of disapproval*

I'm sorry, what? I'll never know or completely understand my husband? Until *I* carry and birth a baby? WTF does that have to do with HIM? What about the 24 years we've spent together, supporting each other through all of life's ups and downs? How can having a child possibly help me know him better than that? Ugh!

As for knowing myself... I know eactly who I am. I'm a woman whose known since she was 4 that she was CF! My mother often tells me that I'm the same person I was when I was a child. I have not changed. Sounds like she knows me pretty well. Sounds like *I* know me pretty well. Moms are always right, right?

Bingo:
But who will you leave all your money and possessions to? What's the point in working so hard if you have no one to work for?

Can anyone ever completely understand themselves, let alone completely understand anyone else?

Bingo: But the Bible says "Go forth and multiply" so if you don't have children you're disobeying God's Commandments and will burn in Hell.
