Do you ever get caught up in the need to be perfect, and it gets you all knotted up inside? What kinds of things get to you, and what helps you to calm down?

Oy! I eat to calm down when I'm all knotted up. And that's caused a whole other issue in itself LOL.

Oh, no! That probably doesn't help with the digestive problems either. frown I wonder what else you could do besides eating to calm down? What other things have a calming affect for you?

I gave my striving for perfection years. Too many things you have no control over.

I've found that music relieves stress for me!

I refuse to achieve perfection now. I started stopping when things were 80% done and seeing how I felt. I realized things still looked great (not perfect), no one noticed the other 20%, and I had a lot more free time to relax.

I also try to simplify everything. I can now pack our family for a trip in 2 hours. The important stuff goes in the car. If anything gets left behind, oh well. We made do, adjust, hit a discount store. I used to obsess for days, making and checking lists.

I throw stuff away or give it away if I haven't gotten to it in a reasonable amount of time.

I break down overall goals into smaller goals.

I take time each day to do something relaxing, even if it means work doesn't get done. I'm not talking hours--maybe a half-hour or so.

I realized that the only person who cared about perfection was me--and I was making myself unhappy.

Hope this helps!

:-) Cate

Hello All,

My name is Kathy Ellen and I'm delighted to have found your forum. It's lovely and easy to navigate smile

I have always been a worry wort.....no need to worry when you're with me as I'll do all the worrying for you.

Consequently, I have many stomach ailments and find life hard at times. It seems that all of my stress goes to my stomach. I really need to cop onto myself and get some sense. I work too much and don't eat right or exercise enought lately.

I'm making plans to improve my life and hope I learn a great deal from you.

Nice to meet all of you and hope to be around more this summer.

Hi Cate,
I agree 100% with you. I'm still a perfectionist about silly things but things are improving for me. I'm in the process of tossing ideas, material goods and issues that are cluttering my life.

Nice to meet you.

I try to live with the 80/20 lifestyle. For at least 80% of the time I try to eat healthy, exercise, and do all the right things, then for the other 20% I allow myself a little leeway to just enjoy eating or doing as I please.

It keeps life from getting boring and I'm still healthy and probably less stressed out than if I tried for 100% all the time.

I strive for the perfection of not letting the act of perfecting get in my way of having a perfect day! laugh

Actually, I gave up trying to perfect my life and activities a long time ago. The only things that really bother me are little things I have no control over, so I gently push them aside and have another cup of tea - or a mocha! smile
