Food for Thought: How long can the U.S. really sustain two wars and continue to fight them effectively.

Yes we have 'coalition' support, but not one of our coalition partners matches our stake in the game, soldier to soldier.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't think for too much longer. You know my husband was just telling me that someone we know has one of her sons going back to Iraq for the third time. I don't know if there is a misconception that our soldiers are rotated out of the war and continuously replaced with new blood over there or what but I wasn't shocked to hear this but I am saddened by it.

Was it the same in other wars?

I thank God that I was able to retire from the military before I had any part of the fighting that our soldiers have been involved in.

Hi Violette-

History has shown that we can sustain two wars. Think WWII with the U.S and allies fighting Japan in the Pacific and Germany/Axis in Europe. But this also didn't happen without mobilizing the entire country and a supreme amount of sacrifice asked of it.

As for your friends son, 3 times in Iraq is alot, especially if he is Army and has had a 15 month tour or two.

Jim, you never know, if our war on terror continues for an extended length of time, our country may ask you to come back to active service! How does that grab you?

Yes, and you hit the nail on the head Jeff, mobilizing the entire country....while I don't think I would like a draft, I would think it would be over sooner with more people involved.

Did we have more allies (numbers of soldiers) in WWII as well?
