Last week, I spent the night at a friend's house. She is also cf. However, she is an aunt to 4 unruly kids. Before I came over, she warned me she had to watch them because her sister and husband were going out of town on business. When I arrived at her house, she told me she was getting mentally prepared for the kids' arrival later that night. Her husband made a few comments regarding past behavior of the kids. Apparently, last time they were over, the kids broke some car lights in the garage. They were already preparing for Easter Sunday. Besides the usual preparations, they were going to hide any breakables. Well later that night, the foursome arrived. I saw her sister and she looked distressed. Hell, I would be if I had that many kids in tow. Her oldest son is 8, followed by a 3 year old, 2 year old, and a one year old. I swear, this is the first time I have not seen her sister pregnant! My friend said she made sure she had her tubes tied after the last kid was born. She told me the doctor gave her a weird look, and she said "Hey, I have to watch the kids too!" Her sister went from a crazy party girl to a daycare center. This made me realize I am glad I don't have kids. Talk about chaotic.

OMG! I can't imagine having that many to look after. She's lucky she has family to help her out. Can you imagine what daycare would cost?!!

I don't want to know how your breast pump works, where diapers are on sale, or another one of my friends' baby picture links.

Erma Bombeck, in one of her later books, recalled the arrival of her third child. (Greatly paraphrased) "We'd made a big mistake, the kids now out numbered us 3 to 2. We were doomed to life with more kids than we had windows in the back seat of the car..."
I always thought she made an interesting point. Why would any adult put themselves in a situation where grown-ups were outnumbered by kids? Sounds dangerous to me! (Add that to the list of reasons I never pursued teaching as a career option! I really don't understand how CF teachers do it!)

My god! I have no idea how or why someone would do that to themselves either. They're so close in age they can't even help (except for the 8 yr old, and that wouldn't be very fair). Yikes. I always kind of shake my head when I hear these people say they got their tubes tied, or a vasectomy AFTER they've had way too many kids. It's like, why'd you wait so long?
We have a friend who just had his 4th kid with his 3rd wife/partner. We know for a fact it wasn't something he actively wanted (and was even angry about it when he first heard the news with the last THREE babies, but then he sucked it up and got in line). He had no real plan for how to support all the kids, though he'll pull it off somehow because he's a scrappy guy. He's always been with these women who are practically predatory about finding a baby-daddy. After the 4th I finally heard him say, "Okay, NOW I'm going to get snipped" but up till then I don't know what he was thinking.

It's kind of like shutting the barn door AFTER all of the horses got out, isn't it? LOL!

Guys that don't want the first kid, and then the second, and the third ... if you don't have the nads to get snipped, or otherwise take care of your options, then you get zero sympathy. Seriously, how stupid can you get?
I don't know how people handle ONE kid, let alone any more. I watched part of an episode of "Crash Test Mommy" the other night, where there were three kids and a friend of the oldest girl - and I had to turn the TV off. Otherwise, I would have ended up curled in the fetal position on the floor, sobbing "make it stop"!! And it wasn't even ME!!

Cindy LOL! Exactly! Guys that don't want the first kid, and then the second, and the third ... if you don't have the nads to get snipped, or otherwise take care of your options, then you get zero sympathy. Seriously, how stupid can you get?
Apparently, very stupid. Especially if you have a preference for high-maintenance, leggy blondes.

I guess that's why the CF are usually "big thinkers" - we don't just let "things happen" - we take control... I get the impression some men just don't look past having sex - they "assume" contraception is being taken care of - I know thay can't get pregnant BUT, she usually have to find child support for 18 years AND they have a child in the world...(whether they're involved or not) My DH & I had three cats for a few years and the house was definitely more chaotic - they outnumbered us - we were living in an Edwardian terrace at the time with a long passageway - they'd all chase each other around the house - tearing down the hallway, across the sofas (with us sitting on them) and dash off again... My DH used to say, "perhaps, we should move out, we appear to be cramping their style"... I remember my DH was working in the front garden and the cats were sunning themselves on the porch - a neighbour and his young child walked by and the little girl said, "Look Daddy, there's the man with all the cats!"... So, now we stop at 2...
