If you're on Orcas, go see Shearwater Adventures or BodynBlade for water conditions. Deer Harbor islands are great. If you're on San Juan Island, go to Lime Kiln Point to see the Orcas swim by. If you're on Lopez, paddle off of Spencer Spit or MacKaye Harbor (go around Iceberg Point but watch conditions). Seattle- Lake Washington, and lots of Puget Sound areas.

I've been to the San Juans twice. Lime Kiln is the perfect whale spotting place! The first time I was with a group of teenagers (I was 16.) We were kayaking in Haro Strait and a pod of orcas approached. We stopped paddling and just drifted. An adult male came straight at our kayak and dove right under us! We could have probably touched his dorsal fin with our paddles. We looked under the kayak as he went under and we could see his saddlepatch so clearly. It was one of the most amazing experiences!

The second time I went with my husband. We went kayaking on the other side of the island because DH is afraid of animals in the water, and my story about the orca scared him. Instead, we ended up getting surrounded by curious seals who came within 20 feet of the kayak as we drifted there for a half hour. I will never forget the look on his face as DH clutched the paddle and said, "I don't care about a no-paddling rule, we need to get out of here before they try to knock us over!" Yes, irrational, but to this day he swears they were going to eat us. They did finally leave us alone, but there was one that followed us for quite a while popping out of the water, looking at us, then silently going back under.

My husband and I are off to Boston for a few days in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to the change of scenery!

In the summer, we are off to the UK and Capri for two and a half weeks in July. Following that in August, a girlfriend and I will be travelling to Thailand to an Elephant Nature Park

www.elephantnaturepark.org

to volunteer for two weeks near Chiang Mai. I had posted on this forum a while back asking if anyone had heard of any animal destinations, and my friend and I wrestled between a cheetah conservation organization in Namibia and the Thai Elephants. The elephants won out (my friend was more keen.) After that, we'll be relaxing in Chaing Mai and seeing the sights before going home.

We may also be off to Kansas City, MO later in the year to see hubby's folks.

The Grand Canyon is fabulous! That has been one of my favorite vacations spots. Durango, Colorado is also a nice place both in the Winter and Summer.

If you want to travel to Canada..Lake Louise is really spectacular.

i went to AZ to visit my friend back in Jan. Sedona is really nice, and another person mentioned that as well as Grand Canyon. It was an experience of my life. I recommend going there. Later this year my aunt and uncle are coming to visit us from Paris, I have planned for all of us to go to Savannah, GA, Disney in FL, Kennedy Space Center, and Sea World. Then we will take a week off then go to biltmore estate in Asheville (DH's hometown) and then fly to NY and DC. I can't wait!!!!

I still try and bring people over to the world of Jeju Island.. We will be visiting again this year although this time we will be staying for a month. We figure that if we spend an entire month there we will have more time to be lazy....thats all we are really looking for.

this sat. my DH and i will be going to san juan and then the next day we'll be leaving from there for a week long cruise. i know someone mentioned cruising before and that they had never went. this is only my biased opinion smile but i absolutely love cruising.i've talked to people who didnt' like it as much but to me there's a lot to like. we've only gone RC and we like that cruise line. this time we're going to aruba, curaco, st.thomas, and st.martaan. we plan on doing a lot of snorkling since we now have our own gear which is great. my mom likes cruising too which is really funny b/c she's a.)deathly afraid of water, b.)doesn't swim see a.), c.) gets seasick very easily-she wears wristbands and takes bonine which she swears by. anyway, despite that she really loves it and since the ships are so big the water thing really doesn't bother her. i tell people who have similar issues that if my mom can cruise anybody can! lol
