My daughter-in-law is a lovely young woman from Japan. I want to send her a special little gift. Any ideas you can give me?

My suggestion would be to buy her some special Japanese tea and perhaps a nice Japanese teaware set. It would remind her of home ^_^

That is a lovely idea! Thank you, Heather. I will be shopping this weekend and look for something like that.

I make origami and a lot of people order it for gifts. You can make some cranes yourself and send them, I even have videos on YouTube if you don't know how to do it. It's relatively easy to learn and it would be a personalized gift.

Whatever you get her, I'm sure she will love and cherish it, Phyllis. Japanese females seem gracious and sweet.

The Japanese tea set is a great idea! You could also get her a maneki neko, a small cat charm that almost all Japanese love and often collect for good luck. They might be hard to find in stores, unless you have a Japanese store nearby you, but they are really easy to purchase online. The following article has more information, if you are interested, and even has a couple links to items you can purchase, though I'm sure you can find a lot more at sites such as amazon.com. Good luck!

Thank you, all, for your great ideas! I am learning how to create oragami figures and am shopping for a maneki neko.

I met her last night for the first time and am very impressed at just how gracious and sweet she is. She is a lovely, confident woman and I am very happy for my son. She brought her brother and his son with her to dinner, they have just come over from Japan. Her nephew is 8 years old and my grandson is 10. The two of them were thrilled to have each other for "cousins". They cannot speak each other's language, but they seemed to communicate quite well and played games in the arcade at the casino/hotel where they are staying. The boys had a great time and I thoroughly enjoyed my daughter-in-law's company. I am quite impressed!

How can I say (in an email) to my son and his wife: "You have made me very happy." in Japanese?
