Interior Alaska is experience near record breaking cold. . . meaning temperatures in the minus 50 to minus 70 range. I'm lucky, our house is in a little microclimate bubble where we haven't hit anything colder than the minus teens in the last week, although we have had a bit of wind. Which, in my opinion, is worse.

Yikes! I don't think I'd do well in that kind of cold! How do you ever manage?

It's not too bad once you learn how to dress for the cold! When I lived in AZ, we used to say in the triple digit summer temperatures, "At least it's a dry heat." The same goes for cold it seems - I'm always colder when going to Anchorage in the winter, even the the temperature is 20 degrees warmer - because it is damp and "feels" colder. I'd much rather deal with 30 or 40 below for a week than 110 or 115 above for a week!
