Hello all -

I am currently going through the process of having a website professionally designed to feature my articles and build a community for social dance lovers. I have been using the theme "Joy in Motion" for a couple of years now, and it is also the name of my monthly newsletter.

The problem is that the domain name www.joyinmotion.com is currently in use. It doesn't look like the owner is active with the website, but his license doesn't expire until next year. Perhaps I can purchase the domain name at that time, but in the meantime I need to find an alternative.

I was considering www.joyinmotiononline.com, but someone told me that using "online" in a domain name has the connotation of an online business, which is not what the website is for. Do you think adding "online" to the end carries this association?

Any ideas on variations of Joy in Motion to make the domain name work? Or do you think the addition of "online" would be okay?

Thanks!

Have you tried other extensions -- .net, .info, .us and the like?

There's also the possibility of hyphens (joy-in-motion).

If you're going to add another word, I would avoid "online." It doesn't make me think 'business' necessarily, but it wastes space. I mean, it's sort of obvious you're online, so if you're going to add another word, why not make it descriptive? (One that would help with SEO, for instance.) Something like "dance" might work (joyinmotiondance).

There are other extensions available, but I know that sometimes I have difficulty locating a website when they use other less familiar extensions. I also think that when telling people your website, hyphens make it easier for someone to not remember your domain name. I want this to be easy to say and type.

I have thought about joyinmotiondance, but I have been branching out into other areas of writing and would like editors to be able to come to my website as well. I don't want to be identified with dance only. That was my only hesitation there. I'm such a perfectionist!

I will most likely also buy karinnorgard.com (my name), more to use to market my writing. So now I am just brainstorming ideas for what to use for community building and networking.

Would love to hear more feedback if anyone has any.

Thanks again, and thank you, Nancy, for your ideas.

i use many differnt ones....

I use divajase.com which is like the main sounding board for all I do. I use this page to link to my other things like glbtspeaks.com, bellaonline, neonjase.com, thepamperingprince.com, my myspace, my facebook, and any other links I have.

Consider something that is central and have other pages off it to click to.

You could try contacting the person who owns joyinmotion.com to see if they are willing to give it up since it appears they have not updated in awhile. Be warned that if you seem to eager or really want it they might try to up the price so patience might be the best option.

The domain name thejoyinmotion.com is available which might be a good alternative - reminds me of the Joy of Cooking!

Hi, adding online would make your URL too long to remember or for that matter for anyone to type in. joy-in-motion.com on the other hand is read by the bots as three keyworks. Extremely important in page rank. With website analytics 101 my next blog. I will go into this more, but the most important thing if you want to reach page one when your clients or new clients are looking for you is to have all 3 of your key words in sync. Your URL, the title of your page, in your description header, and in your h1 tag.
cmt@web-management.ca for more on this. Have fun

Few people attempt to type in multi-word URLs directly from memory -- the majority of people will do a search. (And if they like what they see, they'll bookmark it, or subscribe to the feed -- never really paying much attention to the address.) So I would concentrate on keywords rather than on how easy the URL is to say and/or type.

Thank you all again for the feedback; I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to stuff like this, so it is great to hear from people with experience.

I will take all of this into consideration as I move forward. Thanks again, and I will keep checking back here in case anyone else has any input.
