One of my friends had a baby the day after my SIL - okay, she's not my friend. She USED to be a friend. She's also my husband's ex-girlfriend. We are friendly, but haven't spent time together since high school.

Anyway, her baby is ugly. In fact, I think 99% of newborns are ugly. Even my nephew, who is gorgeous now, was ugly as a newborn. And my other nephew, he was even uglier. Even SIL's baby, who is kind of cute now, was ugly for the first week or so.

They're just ugly.

Some newborns are uglier than others.

My husband now says that's a horrible thing to say. Well, I'm just honest. Not everyone in this world will be an Orlando Bloom or Katie Holmes.

My friend came over for Girls' Night on Friday. She saw the pic of this new baby, and said, "wow, is that an ugly baby. I really lucked out, because my babies were gorgeous."

Actually, her babies were probably the ugliest babies I've EVER seen - and all our friends thought that, too. Their heads were all disfigured until they were about 6 months old, and they practically had bloodhound cheeks until they were about a year. I've NEVER seen kids with chubbier cheeks that hung so darn low.

So I guess all moms think their kids are gorgeous. And of course they would think that, because no one wants to think that they created an ugly child.

But you know all those gross, ugly people you see out there? You know who I'm talking about, not the normal looking people, but the ones where you're like, "whoa!" They were babies once. I'm guessing they weren't cute babies, either.

I'm sorry but after reading this, I just sat here and laughed so hard. This to me was funny. Yes, I was one of the moms who of course thought my babies were gorgeous when they were born, although I tease my daughter who is eighteen now about how bald and big headed she was as a child just to get a rise out of her but she's a beautiful girl now. My mom used to have this saying that if you were ugly as a baby, you would grow up beautiful and if you were a beautiful baby, you would grow up ugly.

But still I loved this post....

Your post made me laugh so hard that I'm getting strange looks from my cats!

I agree, not all babies are cute; in fact I think most of them look like aliens for the first month or so. And then there are some that never seem to grow out of that stage.

I have 2 Cornish Rex cats and some people think they look strange. I have pictures of my cats on my desk at work and some people have commented that my cats are "freaky" or "weird" looking. Whenever this happens I have to bite my tongue from saying "Well, your baby is freaky looking but I was polite enough to keep that opinion to myself!"

Big babies and C-section babies are sometimes cute because their heads are usually shaped right and not all red and scrawny. My cousin's two preemies (both under 4 pounds) looked like aliens. All red and wrinkly. I remember my husband commented that they looked like the pinky rats he fed his snake as a teenager. That was a pretty good description.

Someone said that newborn babies look like Winston Churchill dipped in pink paint. I'm inclined to agree!

I've read opinions saying that babies look like squished worms or the bald guy from The Shield. When I told my fiance about the latter, he couldn't look at an ad for that show without laughing.

Most babies are not that cute when they are born. A lot of them have misshapen heads and blotchy skin.

The best thing I can say about my newest nephew is that he had the longest, most gorgeous eyelashes I have even seen on a baby.

Yeah I don't think newborns are very cute.
My birth mother said I was the most beautiful baby she ever saw and I saw a video of me at 3 weeks old and don't think I was anything special!
I often think newborns look very squashed and flat, one black one white baby I've seen a photo of.
A few weeks later they look a whole lot better.
I thank my blessings I've never been at a birth. Never seen it on a video either and don't want to.
Hubby's cousin's wife is having a 2nd baby and if the time coincides with when we go to the states I have already told hubby I haven't seen a baby being born and I aint gonna start now!
I do think it's pretty cool how there's nothing and then there is a baby of course I do but the blood and stuff! Not 4 me!

I leave the child-rearing to people who feel called to it. I've never felt that call.

Gorgeous or not, there is definitely not enough logic out there with respect to having and bearing kids.

Ew. I don't get newborns at all. The freshest baby I ever saw was my friend's baby at four days old - and she was jaundiced and all yellow and purple looking, and had heat rash (she was born in the middle of summer).

Even her mother said "oh my god, don't look at her, she looks SO terrible!"

I think they look like aliens. Or tadpoles. And they smell funny. Ick.
