Following Lisa's post on Latin music crossover artists like Santana, check out this week's article on Marc Anthony . Since he started recording songs in English as well as Spanish, he has been criticized by Latin music purists for abandoning his Hispanic roots for the sake of commercial success.

On the other end of the spectrum is the popular and successful Colombian rock musician, Juanes, who has repeatedly stated that he will not record in English because he is interested in continuing to promote the Spanish language as well as Hispanic culture and music. To find out more, read this week's article on Juanes.

Do you think artists make the decision to "cross over" because they are expressing the various musical influences that have an impact on them, or do you think they do this only for the commercial success? Take the following poll and find out how others voted!

I personally thinkthat crossover artists are finding a way of making their music accessible to those that normally would not listen to their music. I listen to alot of different types of music and I like latin music, but I don't know that many artists except ones like Santana and Mana and others that are also recording in English or becoming more mainstream. and after listening to some of Marc Anthony's music in English, I decided to check out his SPanish music and some other salsa artists. So I think they are trying to reach a broader audience that wouldn't be possible if they were to confine themselves to a smaller group of people who like a particular style of music.
