My daughter is just beginning college and she has a My Space which she has had for years. It's on private and she truly uses it as a social network. Recently the family gossip (she passes judgement on everything) has created a My Space and wants to be added as a friend, which means she can roam freely on her page. So my question is should your sibling or relative be added? It may cause a family ripple if she isn't (which is fine) but adding her makes me feel uncomfortable. Have anyone had a similar dilemma?

Well she can say its just for close college friends.
But truthfully if it was me I would just say sorry but no. I have one of my sons exs on mine. I felt guilty about letting her off but actually its MY site and if she does not like it that is not my problem.

Allowing my mother access to my myspace page is part of what triggered our little feud. Almost a year later we still aren't speaking.

After that experience, I'm reluctant to have any family members on my friends list. I'd feed the relative a "friends only, sorry" line of some sort and reject the invitation.

Wow, some of you are pretty harsh on your family. I have a myspace, I am in college and I didn't have a problem having my brother and my father as my friends. I am honest with my family, I am not ashamed of anything that I have done so why should I feel like I need to hide anything from them? Maybe if you want to have a myspace contact with your college-child they could have 2 pages one for the family and one for the friends/"networking."

If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.
