I want to create a few websites on various topics and am debating on creating totally separate websites versus one website for all of them. I thought if I created one website I would just name it after myself (myname.com). None of these are commercial websites.

Does anyone have a website named after themselves? Does it work well for you?

Hi;
My Husband and I work with several websites that interlink, the newest one we added is web-management.ca, our Company name we decided to go with his personal name for ease of paperwork, so the site is easily found by googleing 'br thompson'.

We find this works well for individuals, clients and word of mouth contacts to find us easily and there are quick links to our other sites in the form of thumbnails.

Good Luck
Colette

If you used your name for your website and wanted to create separate sites you could use sub-domains such as:

blog.yourname.com
photos.yourname.com

It will be easier to maintain once site that it would be to register several sites and upkeep them. I used my name for my site and it has worked out well for me.

Hi Alison, first time on the forum - just thought I'd say that was really helpful!

Having a problem at the moment getting google to verify my site - it comes up fine on yahoo! Soooo frustrating!

Colette and Allison,

Thank you so much for the comments and advice. Using sub-domains is a great idea...thank you!! I have decided to use my name as the website name and then use sub-domains.

I can't wait to get started. laugh

I haven't personally created a site with my own name but if your content is mostly personal, I would recommend it. The suggestion to add subdomains for the various sections was excellent.

Or you can add them as a directory, eg. if you use Word Press or Nucleus,..e.g. yourname.com/blog
