I have two children of my own, but I certainly don't judge others because they choose not to have children. In fact, I think it is mature and wise of people to know what they want. There are many facets to living life and children are one facet, not the only reason.
Just keep in mind the source of the comments and let it roll off of you.

"I have two children of my own, but I certainly don't judge others because they choose not to have children. In fact, I think it is mature and wise of people to know what they want. I don't mind of course if others have kids because I too respect other choices but I wish they would respect MINE too like you seem to do!
There are three of us in our house. Our landlord, my husband and I. Sometimes the landlord is a pain although sometimes we have a laugh/chat with him but between my husband and I there is so much love & laughter and I'm sure for the rest of you it is the same! My home (and yours too I bet!) is anything BUT cold! There is plenty of warmth and love to go around!
I like Malcolm in the Middle. I mean any chaotic show like that makes me think THANK GOD I don't have to deal with THAT! But I was REALLY ANNOYED in Journeyman when this girl the main character was involved with didn't want to have kids and apparently she did before and he thought she must not be happy with the relationship! I found that quite offensive! I don't want kids but I AM happy in my relationship and it wouldn't matter WHO was in the relationship with me I STILL wouldn't want kids!
On the whole I think I tend to watch shows without a lot of kids like: Frasier, Just Shoot Me, Charmed (only some and not till later on) Friends (ditto) Sex and the City (only one baby near the end for one of the characters - at least far as I know!) Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot. Whose Line is it anyway. King of Queens. The odd Buffy but usually I find them boring! and Monk. What do Monk, Buffy, most characters in Sex & the City, Just Shoot Me and Frasier have in common? No kids! It's not deliberate I just prefer those shows. Quantum Leap too and Heros. (Only one kid in Heros plus a teen)
I don't mind the Simpsons and some shows with kids but hate it when shows go on like having kids is the be all and end all and the ONLY worthwhile thing to do.
I leave the child-rearing to people who feel called to it. I've never felt that call.

Might I make the point that many of us on the forum have been unable to have children, even if we chose to.

Most good shows have died once they introduce a child. (Friends, Mad About You, Murphy Brown, to name a few, I'm sure you all can think of more.) Usually it's a last-ditch effort to save the show, that's where idiots get the idea that a child can save a marriage!
Wow, that is so true!

Scrubs died, too. They just said in TV Guide that it's not coming back. And intersting, everyone's got babies this year.

I loved Scrubs until the kid came along. I stopped watching after that. I heard that JD had one on the way too and was glad I'd already quit watching.
As with everyone else, I loved shows like M*A*S*H, Frasier, Cheers, Just Shoot Me, King of Queens (fat guy/hot wife not withstanding) and Will & Grace. 2 1/2 Men is a show I like with a kid in it. It's so well-written, it's hard not to like. Though, the kid's getting older and I don't like gross teenage boy humor. Plus, Charlie was dating the Judge with the kid and making kids' music, which has warning lights flashing all over the place for me. I love Berta, though. SHe's a great character.
In the last few years we've pretty much given up on TV. I just can't tell you how much I hate reality TV. My one guilty pleasure is Grey's Anatomy. It's the only show I actually make a point of watching. Well, that and CNN while I cook dinner and while we eat.

I like Grey's Anatomy too...but I guess Meredith will be the one who'll get pregnant soon...I hope I'm wrong... King of Queens: We have to wait till the soaps get translated, so you guys know more, but I think in the last season Carry is pregnant? I don't exactly know that... Most of the sitcoms get boring when children arrive...that's bad, but you know....that's life! In real life it's the same, isn't it? Many friends are boring too, when their children are born... A lot of parents become SO one-dimensional when they have children. It's like they don't have any interests of their own. In my observation, parents tend to drink more too! I wonder what that means.........

I like House (no kids) and Desperate Housewives (doesn't really focus on the kids, and when it does they're usually doing something really awful and causing their parents lots of trouble, which is amusing).
