My Mother is so anxious for the little finches to come back this spring. Last year, when she went out back to water her gardens, she would stand and watch the darling little finches. One little yellow one kept coming closer and closer to her every day. One morning she just stood still and held out her hand. The finch lit on her finger and sat there singing to her and came back to her often throughout the spring and summer. I want to get her a book and journal on "birding" or "bird count". Any suggestions? She will be 86 this March.

What kind of finch is it? Finch is a general term as it can apply American goldfinches, House finch, Purple finch, etc & that's just in MI!
But this was sweet tho! Awe-inspiring.

I don't know what kind it is. It is very small with a bright yellow chest and a touch of red on the back of its head. Does it matter what kind it is?
