Well!
Speaking as someone who was begging for a hysterectomy by age 16, I'd have to say I would be in favor of having the option. Keyword: option. I don't believe anyone should have any type of medical procedure forced on the against their will.

Note: I was not looking for sterilization as a birth control option when I was a teen, I wanted it because I had periods from hell and, from puberty to hysterectomy (at 40, I basically had to schedule my live around periods and migraines. Believe me, having one week a month when you feel halfway human is no way to live. Oh yeah - the medical advice at the time consisted of a pat on the head and being told it was all just part of being a woman and to accept it and it would most likely clear up once I was older and had kids.

I can certainly understand why a person would want to stop pain like that!

I work with teens and the thing that scares me about something like this is that I think some of them are already relying too heavily on the "morning after" pill, and I'm always afraid they are going to get an STD. They don't seem to be too concerned about that, which baffles me because I know people who have them, and you'd never guess it by looking at them or knowing what they do for a living. STD's don't discriminate.

I do see the side of it that says that when you provide this option, they might consider that a green light for sex. I'm not sure what the answer is but I'm not sure this is it.

Teens are going to have sex whether there is a "green light" (condoms, pills) or not.

Bottom line, IMHO, is the question - who owns your body? You? Your parents or other family members? The government?

Seems to me that if family or the government could force even temporary sterilization on someone against their will, then they could also force you to have kids, live here, work there. No need to make your own decisions or take personal responsibility for anything - Big Brother will gladly see to it that you do what's good for you whether you like it or not.
