I work as a tutor at a college. We have a center where people can come in for chemistry/biology help, we have computers and study rooms. Anywho, this girl comes in with child in tow. Said child is obviously sick (and who isn't?), hacking and runny nose. The mom lets the kid touch all of the computers with her dirty hands, run around touching the tables, all the while the kid is screaming, "I want chocolate! I want chocolate!" This little germ factory is transmitting her germs to every surface she touches! I tell my co-worker that I think it's really irresponsible for the mom to bring in her kid who is sick, and who is disturbing people trying to study. Mom hears me and launches on me about how hard it is to be a parent, that her child wasn't disturbing anyone, and she doesn't like to hear her child being called disgusting (in my defense I said her kid was gross, not disgusting).

God how I wished I wasn't at work. I would've gone OFF on her. But unfortunately I had to bite my tounge so I wouldn't get in trouble. How freaking rude do you have to be to bring your sick kid into a closed environment and allow them to touch every surface around? I'm just shocked at the breeders sometimes...

Tell me about it. The worst illnesses I've gotten in the past few years have come directly or indirectly from grubby kids. :P

I actually gag. I look at their little hands with the [censored] under nails???? and I just think they look like a little ole germ ball standing there!!!!

her child was only possibly spreading his/her germs around and could've made everyone sick!!! of course she didn't think of it that way! i hate when parents get on that "it's hard to be a parent...blah blah blah. it was her choice to have kids and duh! of course being a parent is difficult. that's why we dont' have kids! why is it that the CFers seem to know this in many cases more than parents? it just boggles my mind.

that child should've been home with the mother being taken care of and not dragged out of the house.

i would've been really irked as well. keep lost a of germ-x at your desk. i would've started putting it on in front of her to make a pt.!

What I would like to know is why the students weren't complaining. I would. If I went into the learning center at the school I attend and there was a kid making a fuss, I'd take it all the way to the Dean of Students if I had to. I ask why the school can't or won't provide a study-friendly enirvonment.

Of course, the school I go to has a daycare, so there is NO excuse for kids to be in any of the facilities.

This is another example of how parents these days think that children belong wherever the hell they want to take them. How are kids supposed to learn any kind of manners, appropriateness, consideration of others, etc. when they are dragged to all kinds of places they shouldn't be and then they are allowed to run around, screaming, making a fuss, getting others sick and getting snot everywhere?

Yes, parenting is hard. And it means if your kid is sick you have to stay home and figure it out. Kids don't belong in study areas, at rock concerts, at R rated movies, etc. My mom even gets disgusted seeing this kind of thing, and says when she took care of us she just had to stay home if we acted up, even if she took us to the grocery store and we had a fit, we just had to leave so we wouldn't disturb others--and then we were taught about appropriate behavior when we got home smile

People sign up for these complications to their daily life when they have kids, but those of us who don't, or don't bring our kids to these places, shouldn't have to suffer along with them!

the only thing i want to parent is my great dane!

Guess what, we have a daycare center on campus! This girl that brought her kid in is a repeat offender too. One day she left the kid while she went to chem lab, just expecting us to take care of it! Our boss wasn't happy at all about that.

I could tell that other students were annoyed as well but the majority were saying, "oh how cute!" God forbid I say something about the behavior though. I'm just waiting for her to tell my boss that I was rude because he will be [censored] that she keeps bringing her kid with her.
