Hi everyone....I know this is off topic, but I am really worried about my dad and needed to get this off my chest. They think he has a blockage and so he has to go for tests on his heart in the next few days. All of this just sort of popped up within the past two days. I am an only child and extremely close to my parents, so I am sort of freaking out right now. The worst is that I live 8 hours away and feel so helpless. I have a job, so I can't just run there for every little thing. But, his next test is a heart cath. A little more serious than the stress test and echocardiogram. He's been referred to a cardiologist, etc. My mom called and we cried together. Hopefully we are all worked up over nothing serious. Maybe they won't find anything?? Or maybe it will be small and easy to fix.

I just don't understand it...he eats healthy, keeps his cholesterol, triglycerides (however you spell that) and blood pressure under control by himself with no meds, and has a super good heart rate. There is no known heart disease in his family either, so he shouldn't have that hereditary gene.

I really hope that everything will be ok. I feel like I am just surviving the divorce I'm going thru. I'm not sure how much more trauma I can take. But, I've rambled enough. Thanks for listening...

How can you prove whether at this moment we are sleeping, and all our thoughts are a dream; or whether we are awake, and talking to one another in the waking state?

My thoughts are with you CF Gal. We went through this with my Grandfather in 2006 and he's fine now. It's truly amazing the ways that they can fix the body now. In our case, Pa was 83 and ended up having another aortic valve replacement, triple bypass and a pacemaker fitted. He's great again now (although at the time he was in a lot of pain).

CF_Gal, my uncle had a cardiac cath a couple of years ago and they put a stent in and he's been fine since. So, with your dad's numbers all being good & no history, odds are certainly in his favor.

And, I know it's hard being so far away, too, but your dad knows you're with him in spirit.

Do take care of yourself--a divorce and a family illness so close together are quite stressful.

Wishing your dad a great outcome and you and your family peace,

CF_Gal,

A blockage may be caused by a blood clot in the veins that has become lodged somewhere. In the heart, it leads to heart attack, if it settles in the brain then it's a stroke, if it goes to the lungs then it's a pulmonary embolism. So it may have nothing to do with blood pressure, eating healthy, or any of the other stuff we hear so much about. These things are fixable these days and it sounds like your dad and his docs are all right on top of the problem. My blockage just needed one of those super clot busting shots to clear it.

I'll be keeping you and your dad in my thoughts.

My thoughts and prayers are with you it's a lot to handle but know that God has His hand on you and your family. Divorce is tough to start with, try to stay as healthy as you can spiritually and emotionally so you can be your best during this time, I bet you have tons of love and support to offer right where you're at.

Lots of best wishes from this end.

Looking at it from a practical point of view, there is nothing you can do for him except show him he is loved. He is getting help from the best people possible and thankfully they are doing the tests as opposed to him being rushed into hospital to have tests done.

There is no point in worrying until you get the results... and yes, I know that's hard to do! However, you need to keep yourself healthy and de-stressed so that, in the minor chance there is something seriously wrong, you are able to be there to support your family and help your Dad through this time.

Sometimes these things just 'happen', even though there isn't a history in the family - thankfully it's been picked up and THAT'S a really good thing.

Perhaps you just need to show you're there in spirit if you can't be there in person? lots of phone calls, perhaps some flowers for your Mother 'just because'? maybe organise a trip to see them in the summer for 'when Dad is given the all clear?' ... give you all something to look forward to?

Keep your chin up :-)
