I was just wondering if any of you guys caught comedian Bill Burr's stand-up routine on Letterman Friday night....if not, well, it was a good rant that you would have appreciated, and funny too.
He first started by talking about how he wants to get a puppy, and he doesn't appreciate all of the strangers' comments about how he'll have to get the puppy fixed. He then was talking some about whether he would really need to get the dog fixed, which I didn't really agree with, because I am all for spaying/neutering to make sure the population of stray animals out there doesn't get too high, but then he went in another direction, and it totally cracked me up.
He started talking about how you'll see "experts" come on TV and say "The deer population is getting too high," and the like, and how they advise everyone to take part in the upcoming hunting season. He thinks that's not cool, since deer aren't really doing anything to hurt us (other than crossing the highway and causing wrecks, of course, but highways are usually in the middle of their habitats). He said "Why is it that when Phil has 15 kids, with another one on the way, no one says, 'make sure to take part in hunting season and shoot Phil down?'" Of course, he said it in a funnier way (something to the effect of shooting Phil in the face), but you get the gist. He said something like "Seriously, after you have 3 mediocre kids, is there really a need to go for a 4th? It's not like you're suddenly going to have one that is really that special." He said that the increase in "mediocre" people leads to more unnecessary traffic, more people standing in line at restaurants/coffee shops not knowing what to order, etc. He said there should be a halt to breeding for 25-30 years, because every minute, 1 person dies, but 3 are born. He said that we should let the population get down to around 30,000, and then we'd all be happy, getting to work earlier, and among other things, we would all get to attend the Super Bowl.
I just loved the routine, and of course, his little comments were probably much funnier than what I've conveyed here, but I thought you would appreciate it.
