Clean water first, and then try Betta Fix Remedy because it's not as strong as some other medications. Next, if that isn't working, you could try the good ol' fashioned salt bath - use aquarium salt - not table salt and follow the instructions on the aquarium salt carton. It's inexpensive and you can buy it at PetsMart, Petco, and at other stores in their fish department, or at an aquarium store. Probably clean water and more frequent water changes will fix it. If these things don't work, it could be cause for concern - at least to take a closer look at your fishy and observe him more closely and for longer periods of time for any other signs of illness. Then, if he is still sick, you would check for a specific type of fish medicine that is for the illness you have diagnosed him with - like, maybe "ich", for example. Early detection is the key.
