My DH is a high school teacher and this happened to one of his fellow co-workers. He doesn't really know this other teacher, but he thought it was interesting what happened to her. He was making his lunch in the teachers lounge when he overhear several other teachers talking about kids w/ the one lady. This lady happens to be CF (as DH learned from the conversation) and responded to all the inquiring teachers by saying the following,"My husband and I have never wanted children. Besides, even if we did you never know how they are going to turn out. It doesn't matter how you raise them. Some turn out bad and some turn out good. That is not a risk we are willing to take." DH said that after she told all of the other teachers that, that they totally backed down and understood.

I only wish that everyone was like that, that they would back down after being told certain things about our CF status. Oh well, it's nice to dream.

That's real wisdom coming from a teacher - they spend more time with a variety of kids than most nonparents. She knows what she's talking about. It really is a [censored] shoot, and it makes me feel so much better to hear a teacher say that. Thanks for sharing!
