Just wondering...I saw on another thread that people started discussing whether cf's have a "cautious" gene that makes our personalities less likely to want kids. So I wondered if any of you have taken the Meyers-Briggs Personality Type test? (I know there are a lot of people out there who think it is bogus and that's ok!) I've done it several times for work/school and always come out the same type--INFP (if you know this type, you can see why I'm even interested in this topic, ha ha!) Some aspects of my 'type' are that we need LOTS of alone time, that we're kind of in a dreamworld most of the time, are creative, prefer to have one or two close friends rather than lots of acquaintances, etc. I can see why this type would be likely to not want kids as it's hard to fit that in with these preferences Anyway, if any of you are familiar with the Meyers Briggs, do you think there are any types that lean more towards being CF?

I think I'm INFP, too. The last time I took it was about a year ago, so I could be wrong, but that sounds right to me. Actually, I think the last letter changes every time I take the test, but I know I definitely am INF ...

I'm ENFJ. It seems like a lot of CF (on CF sites) tend to be introverted and analytical. I don't know what the hell happened to me.

I think I'm INFJ. "Some aspects of my 'type' are that we need LOTS of alone time, that we're kind of in a dreamworld most of the time, are creative, prefer to have one or two close friends rather than lots of acquaintances, etc. I can see why this type would be likely to not want kids as it's hard to fit that in with these preferences" Boy does that sound like me though!
I leave the child-rearing to people who feel called to it. I've never felt that call.

I knew at a very early age, I didn't want kids. Hey - when I was a kid, I didn't like being around other kids! Even now, at my age, I can tell kids stories, play with them, comfort them, etc...but only until a certain time limit - then they must be handed back! I have always known that I would not make a good mother. I am an INFP and do indeed prefer (read as NEED) a lot of alone time. Friends...yes...a handful, definitely not a crowd. That is also why I like to write....I can do it alone. If you have ever seen the book "Do What You Are"...then you will have a greater inderstanding of your type. It was written by Paul Tieger and Barbara Barron-Tieger. www.personalitytype.com

Welcome Robin! It's nice to find others who can relate.
I'm an INFP too, though sometimes I test as an extrovert. I like people and get a lot out of being social, but also need LOTS of time alone. If I didn't have that, I'd be a goner.

Well, I've just taken the Internet version of the test twice and appear to be either INTJ or ISTJ. Whatever my exact personality type, I am definitely an introvert who needs a lot of time to herself, although I do enjoy socialising in carefully measured doses (and with the right people). I also like to think about things, to question conventions and social norms - I'm sure that the refusal to be constrained by conventions and customs for their own sake is a common theme with the CF.

I just did the test - ESFP.... 1. ESFP's need the freedom to be spontaneous (WOW, that is me!) One of the things that bothered me growing up - it took sooo long to get out the door with a baby and small children...have we got the nappies, fruit juice, pram, rusks? My parents were offered the use of a simple beach house one summer - loading up the car and trailer took all morning - high chairs, cots, pram and assorted stuff for 3 young kids. (2 older) Now I pick up my sunglasses, handbag/briefcase and I'm gone...I have a hard time standing around waiting when I'm ready to go... I have to occupy myself (TV, Internet)or meet someone downstairs - I'll have a drink and wait there... Strangely, it doesn't bother me if someone is late meeting me at a restaurant - I have a drink and read the paper...
2. They like having fun & enjoy company - absolutely correct - it's only been the last 5 years or so, I've really started to enjoy my own company.
3. Great zeal for life - True...endless possibilities out there!
Dullness, routine and being confined actually makes me quite flat/depressed/moody...when I was recovering from glandular fever, the specialist wanted me to take an extra 6 weeks off work. I had to rest so, wasn't free to do other things. I became quite flat - I wanted to get moving - I hated being "shut down"..."distanced from life"...she allowed me to go back part time to halt the mental decline! I love the dynamics of work and leisure...and work most efficiently with deadlines. I can't bear tedium...I become restless & moody/irritable...I need the discipline that work schedules demand but hate routine...I can manage a team of professionals and enjoy keeping my home neat, tidy and welcoming BUT, constantly forget to put the large garbage & recycling bins (in the shed) out on collection day AND, forget (sometimes for weeks) to take washing off the line. I had to wash the same set of sheets three times because, I kept forgetting to take them off the line. Most clothing is put on the clothes horse so, I can't forget about it BUT, the larger things that go on the outside line are history. I'm also, hopeless with the freezer - anything going into the freezer (excluding ice cream) is there forever - it's forgotten. My older sister is a master at routine so, she provides reminder calls and checks my clothes line & freezer regularly. I think the onset of Alzheimer's will be difficult to pick with me..."well, she left her washing out for 2 weeks"..."Oh, she's been doing that for years!"...
