I haven't heard of that specific plan, but definitely I think most doctors understand that it is better to eat several smaller meals rather than a few gigantic ones. Your stomach is a dynamic organ and will shrink or grow based on how much you stuff into it. So if you eat small meals, it shrinks down and you feel full more quickly. So you eat less. Also your blood sugar stays more even because it is getting small doses of food rather than overwhelmingly large ones. Your body gets the nutrients it needs spaced out over the day when it is using them.
