I was not a really bad child, compared to what others have said before, but I know I was a little bit of a troublemaker. My parents did a good job, but ultimately what it comes down to is that I would not want to be a father to my own younger-mini-me. Plus, my middle sister has a slight mental retardation issue which keeps her living at home, but she does keep a job (long story), so I have that experience as well.
Things do not always work out for the best. And I know that parenting is just not what I want to do.

You've all heard about my mother, right?
Enough said.

My personal life childhood was fantastic, and I loved every minute of it. I loved being an only child. I loved disappearing into my make-believe lands for hours at a time (something that children today seem to have a really hard time with.)
But school? Dear god, did I have issues. We moved here in fifth grade. I had been the most popular girl in my class at my old school. And in this school? People called me Dumbo because my ears stick out. I had NEVER been made fun of for my ears before. It was a shock. And I wore orthodics, so they called me Shoepad. And Pinocchio because I have a bump on my nose (which I always thought was a stretch - no pun intended - because I don't have a long nose or anything!)
I HATED grade school, junior high, and the first two years of high school. My junior year I was in a class with one of the popular girls, and we were friendly, and suddenly the popular kids decided I was cool and invited me to a few parties, and I refused to go. They weren't the kids who were mean to me. (Surprisingly, most of the kids from my grade school ended up being the druggies and the losers.)
But, I had my friends at my gymnastics organization, and they were always true friends, to this day they are my family. So it's not like I was alone. I just spent the majority of my time with people I hated.
I would NEVER want to go through that, and if I had a child going through that, I don't know what I would do. The sad thing is that my mom never understood how bad it was for me. She had no clue that I was tormented by teasing and name calling and "looks" in the hallway (someone started a rumor that I was in a gang at my old school, I think that has a lot to do with it. She made up a lot of horrible stuff about me.)
So, part of my childhood made me not want to have kids. Actually, I see the most popular guy from junior high at work every once in a while. He just got married, and a month in his wife got pregnant. All I can think is, great, we need another egotistical jerk running around.

RE bump on nose: I've got one, too! It comes from the Greek side of the family. Fortunately, mine is by far the least severe in the family. You should see my brother's nose! Yikes.
Are you SURE we aren't related?

Myra, I'm starting to think we were separated at birth or something.
Although, I'm scanning my Grandma's 20 photo albums and all the pics of me as a little kid (I'm up to age 5 so far) - I have NO bump! I wonder if I broke my nose and never noticed, or did it happen with puberty? No idea.
It's the Czech side of me coming through!

OK, now you're quoting that nutcase Early. I'm officially scared...
I don't think my nose really developed the bump until puberty, and I know my brother's didn't.

I am just finishing up doing the screen captures for that stupid costuming site I want to do for Browncoats. I've been lagging because DH won't get off his butt and do the design for it. Maybe this will kick him into gear ...
Anyway, I've been on Joss overload the last few weeks, between Buffy and Firefly ... he is SO quotable ... and I love Jubal Early.
And River ... "she understands, she doesn't comprehend."

Link me when you're done!
I have a "Brown-Quote" widget on my myspace page. A different Browncoat quote everyday. I love it!
I love that River line, as well as "Also, I can kill you with my brain."
Early is such an effed up individual. And kind of creepy. But funny.
Another favorite line is my new sig. lookee!
Oh, yea! Joss, Marti, and the gang create totally quotable stuff. We speak fluent Joss in this household. His lexicon has mixed with our own weird phrases to create something that doesn't even resemble English.
Um, Lynette, our little geek obsession has hijacked yet another thread... oops.
Finally, a favorite line that almost suits this forum: "Ah, the pitter patter of tiny feet in huge combat boots... SHUT UP!"

Please link me, too! Every time I go past a leather goods store, I look to see if there are any nice brown leather coats. Of course, they're much more expensive than any other kind of jacket.
Whenever I watch Terminator or Chuck I get a little thrill and a little bit of sadness. Nothing will ever be as good as Firefly.

Tress, I totally understand. I so want to watch Terminator, but it just makes me sad!
