I second that. We live at the end of a cul-de-sac, and while we enjoy the lack of traffic, we have had our share of problems with the local kids. It's not too bad in the winter, but in the summer they like to congregate outside our house, sit on the pavement, play football (often kicking it into our garden and going in without asking) and generally be noisy and annoying. We are thinking about moving (for unrelated reasons) and I don't think we'd live in a cul-de-sac again - I'd rather deal with traffic sounds than noisy children!

Indigo, it won't help you with the weather issue, but I would put in a vote for Mpls/St. Paul, MN. Even though I saw that it was the #2 best place to be pregnant (aaaack), I would also say it's a pretty good place to be childfree. There are lots of folks here with advanced degrees and professional jobs, which tend to correlate with fewer/no children. It's also a pretty liberal state and tends to be more tolerant of differences thatn most of the rest of the Midwest (lots of gay/lesbian folks move here from outstate MN and other midwestern states for that reason).

My husband and I moved here from South Dakota, where being CF is akin to having 2 heads . . . but here it's no big deal. I work in an office of ten, all in our 30s, and only one person has kids . . . and neither of my past two female managers had children. There is also an active No Kidding chapter here which my husband and I belong to.

So, head west, Indigo . . . it's all good!

thanks so much for that! actually my hubby has changed his profile at work to "willing to relocate" which i'm happy about. they have facilities all across the country including Mpls/St. Paul so that's really good to know. when we do decide to move (it might not be for a while) we are definitely going to do a lot of research. it sounds like it's a great place for CF people. i figure when we do move i really want to go to a place where i can at least meet some like minded people.

I live in Portland, Oregon. Both of my next door neighbors have small children and babies. Ick! I have contemplating moving out of my area. I see more and more babies or pregnant women than ever. Closer to downtown is more cf, but its expensive. I thought about relocating to Seattle, but from ranking #4 in the nation as the best place to have a baby? I am not so sure. Must be the rain! Anywhere in the nation, in the suburbs is kid mania. I spent a week in Whistler, BC and did not see many kids. The ones I saw were,go figure, Americans!

My bf did not live in a cul-de-sac, but he lived in an apartment complex full of noisy, unsupervised kids. Every time he would come home after a 12 hour shift, working construction, kids would be screaming outside of his window. Both of us talked to the manager about this noise, but she did not care. Another breeder. He moved out, but that was not the main reason. It did help finalize his decision.

That's the thing about apartment complexes that I can't stand. You just can't escape the noise, especially for kids. One night I woke up at 2 in the morning because a bunch of teenagers had shown up and were skateboarding right outside my window. The windows and walls, of course, are very thin and sound moves right through it. I threatened to call the police and they left, but I was so [censored] that I ended up drinking 6 shots of black label Jim Beam before I could relax enough to go back to sleep.

That was before I discovered therapy and wax ear plugs.
